Ron Burgundy (Will Ferrell) is the lead anchorman for The Channel 4 news team until his job is jeopardized when a female co-anchor (Christina Applegate) comes on board.

Anchorman is hilarious from start to finish.

Will Ferrell goes on a roller coaster of comedy and takes the audience along for the ride. Christina Applegate gives her best performance since the television show "Married with Children."

There are a variety of cameos throughout the movie. I dare anyone to count how many there are. I tried to but lost count.

Ferrell not only wrote the script and stars but he also sings "Afternoon Delight" with his co-stars Paul Rudd, Steve Carell and David Koechner.

Other co-stars include Fred Willard and Vince Vaughn.

This is Jeremy Birk saying "stay classy Cape Girardeau."

There are only three reasons why anyone would want to see "Anchorman:" First, you are a true fan of Will Ferrell; second, you love to listen to golden oldies radio stations; third, you need to stay inside a cool theater on a hot day, eating real movie popcorn and drinking a soda.

This movie has offensive language, sexual sight gags and disgusting dialogue. A disclaimer at the end of the film stated that the American Humane Society had monitored the making of the film to make sure that no animals were hurt during shooting. Even that claim should be taken with a grain of salt.

Some parodies of the 1970s are so over the top that they are funny. This is not one of them. Celebrity cameos and voice overs are not enough to save this movie.

Unless the high point in your life was based on dirty comments inside a locker room, save your money and do not see this movie.

Three stars (out of four)

You will laugh, you will laugh some more and you will laugh still again.

Will Ferrell, along with his costars, will make you feel that you are watching a Mad TV or Saturday Night Live segment. So parents, please be advised it is not the best choice for younger children. The movie has a lot of humorous sexual references, foul language and situations that are very adult oriented.

The movie presents some interesting workplace confrontations between Ferrell's character, who is extremely chauvinistic, and the up and coming character played by Christina Applegate.

Anyone in the broadcast or journalism fields will surely get a chuckle out of this humorous look at the portrayal of the early days of the television news media. The movie especially shows the lighter side of television news ratings and the pressure to perform.
