August 10-13 53rd Annual Sikeston Jaycee Bootheel Rodeo; Rodeo events include the grand entry, bareback riding, steer wrestling, saddle bronc, tie-down roping, WPRA barrel racing and bull riding. The featured entertainers this year will be Montgomery Gentry on Wednesday, Sara Evans on Thursday, Dirks Bentley on Friday and Darryl Worley on Saturday. August 20 6th Annual Barbecue Benefit; Join CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) of Southeast Missouri for a barbecue and special auction of a Sheryl Crow signed guitar to help provide abused and neglected children a voice in court. August 21 Chamber of Commerce Welcome Back Picnic, Capaha Park; Students, enjoy a day of relaxation, but don't miss the annual Welcome Back Picnic! There will be great food as well as recreational activities including canoe rides around the Capaha pond, volleyball, football toss and other lawn games. Sponsored by the Cape Girardeau Chamber of Commerce University Relations Committee in partnership with Chartwells Educational Dining Services. Tour this three-story, 1910 home and extensive gardens "before" interior designers transform it for viewing October 1-9. Fabulous master bedroom/executive bath suite-complete with sky lights-on the third floor open for Bare Bones weekend only. The cost is $5.00 per person or $12.00 combo ticket for Bare Bones and "after" redecoration house tour (see October 1-9). This event is a collaboration of the Southeast Missouri Hospital Auxiliary and SEMO Interior Design Department to fund the purchase of a patient simulator for the training of hospital staff and nursing students.
