Through August 14 The Sound of Music, The Muny, St. Louis; Considered by some to be Rodgers & Hammerstein's greatest musical, The Sound of Music surely showcases some of their greatest music. Set against the Austrian Alps, a young postulant falls in love with a military widower and his seven unruly children.

August 10-13 53rd Annual Sikeston Jaycee Bootheel Rodeo; Rodeo events include the grand entry, bareback riding, steer wrestling, saddle bronc, tie-down roping, WPRA barrel racing and bull riding. The featured entertainers this year will be Montgomery Gentry on Wednesday, Sara Evans on Thursday, Dirks Bentley on Friday and Darryl Worley on Saturday. August 19 Hypnotist Dale K, Student Rec Center; Dale K, an award-winning hypnotist is unlike any hypnotist before him. If your idea of a hypnotist is a tuxedo swinging a pocket watch...prepare to be shocked. The wacky physical comedy and electrifying personality of Dale K will convince you this is not your typical hypnosis show. August 19, 20, 26 & 27 "A Few Good Men"; Aaron Sorkin's powerful socio-political drama, directed by Lloyd Williams, focuses on the trial of two Marines for complicity in the death of a fellow Marine. August 20 6th Annual Barbecue Benefit; Join CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) of Southeast Missouri for a barbecue and special auction of a Sheryl Crow signed guitar to help provide abused and neglected children a voice in court. August 21 Chamber of Commerce Welcome Back Picnic, Capaha Park; Students, enjoy a day of relaxation, but don't miss the annual Welcome Back Picnic! There will be great food as well as recreational activities including canoe rides around the Capaha pond, volleyball, football toss and other lawn games. Sponsored by the Cape Girardeau Chamber of Commerce University Relations Committee in partnership with Chartwells Educational Dining Services. The food will be served on the hill above the baseball field. Rain location will be the Student Recreational Center.

August 26 & 27 14th Annual Chamber of Commerce BBQ Fest; Teams from around the region will compete to see who makes the best backyard barbecue in the region! August 27 & 28 Bare Bones; "Bare Bones" showing for Cape Girardeau's First Designer Show House of Ideas. Tour this three-story, 1910 home and extensive gardens "before" interior designers transform it for viewing October 1-9. Fabulous master bedroom/executive bath suite-complete with sky lights-on the third floor open for Bare Bones weekend only. The cost is $5.00 per person or $12.00 combo ticket for Bare Bones and "after" redecoration house tour (see October 1-9). This event is a collaboration of the Southeast Missouri Hospital Auxiliary and SEMO Interior Design Department to fund the purchase of a patient simulator for the training of hospital staff and nursing students.
