'City of God'

A photographer named Buscape narrates short stories to recall his childhood growing up in one of the most crime-ridden areas of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The film introduces many characters, including a boyhood friend on the path to becoming a drug dealer in what was one of the world's most dangerous areas from the late '60s to the early '80s. 'Monster'
Starring Charlize Theron, Christina Ricci, Bruce Dern, Scott Wilson, Pruitt Taylor Vince, and Lee Tergesen. The story is based on the life of serial killer Aileen Wuornos, who was executed Oct. 9, 2002, after murdering at least six Florida men while working as a prostitute. In her 1992 trial, Wuornos pleaded innocent, saying she acted in self-defense to prevent being raped, a statement she later recanted. The film centers on Wuornos' life before the murders and her romantic relationship with Selby, a woman she dated while still turning tricks and killing men. Rated R for strong violence and sexual content, and for pervasive language, running time 109 minutes. (Cape West Cine)
'Welcome to Mooseport'
Starring Gene Hackman, Ray Romano, Maura Tierney, Marcia Gay Harden, Christine Baranski, and Rip Torn. A former U.S. president retires to a small New England coastal town to write his memoirs. But his new neighbors have other ideas; they plead with him to fill the vacant mayoral seat. In the interest of fairness, a local plumber runs against him, setting off a surprisingly fierce and competitive campaign.
