Kid Rock - "Cocky"
Rating: 1 1/2
The self proclaimed American Bad Ass is still up to no good. Detroit rap/rocker Kid Rock recently released his third mainstream album, "Cocky." The album features the music of the Twisted Brown Trucker Band, along with guest appearances from Sheryl Crow, and Snoop Dogg. The musical content of the album is rather different from typical Kid Rock sound. The album explores many directions including several acoustic riffs and slow jams. Influences of country, metal, and even gangsta rap are prevalent, proving Kid Rock's effort at widening his horizons. Kid, it's good to see you try, but how about writing some new lyrics. First you're the bull god, next you're a cowboy, then you're a bad ass, now you're just plain cocky. The problem is that the words are a little different, but the message never changes. My personal opinion is that I'm sick of hearing Kid Rock make songs about himself. Kid, how about moving on to a different subject?
Ben Folds - "Rockin' the Suburbs"
Rating: 3
Ben Fold's latest release is a solo album titled "Rockin' the Suburbs." Ben further shows his musical talents by playing numerous instruments to create a sound all his own. The album has a very mellow sound, lacking many of the rock licks of his previous work. However, laid back vibe, coupled with lyrical appeal, proves to be very effective. Ben Folds has always had a way of captivating people through his lyrics, and this album is no exception. The album isn't appropriate for every scenario, but it is wonderful in its own way. The mellow emotional appeal is entrancing.

Buck-O-Nine - "Twenty-Eight Teeth"
Rating: 3
Buck-O-Nine takes us back to the ska-punk glory days of the late 90's. The band was known in the mainstream world for its hit 'My Town.' Beyond that most aren't familiar with the sound. The ska style of the album is very simple and forward. The lyrics are happy-go-lucky, and straight to the point. With this simplicity the band basically conveys the message of carefree teen life. Twenty-Eight Teeth is truly a great album in its own sense. Within this CD is the power to instill happiness. From the moment you pop it in the player you just feel like dancing around. Buck-o-Nine is an excellent bargain buy.
