"A Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols" will be presented at 7 p.m. Wednesday at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 223 W. Adams St. in Jackson, and at 7 p.m. Dec. 18 at Old Saint Vincent's Church, 131 S. Main St. in Cape Girardeau. The festival includes hymns, anthems and readings that chronicle events leading to the birth of Jesus. The choirs, Joyful Sound Ringers and guests of St. Paul will lead these candlelit services, which are free and open to the public. The festival, introduced in 1918 at King's College in the United Kingdom, first was broadcast in 1928. More information is available by calling (573) 243-2236.
