Tony Spinner is about as nonchalant as it gets when he talks about coming back to his hometown of Cape Girardeau to play two shows this weekend. For him, it's mainly just a time to catch up.

"I need to go see my parents," said Spinner. "It's been almost a year since I've been home. It's really just an excuse to see my parents."

But the shows Friday night at the Cape Girardeau Regional Air Festival's hangar dance and Saturday night at Broussard's are also ways for Spinner and his band to promote their latest release of classic-rock influenced songs, "Chicks and Guitars."

After being on the road as a touring guitarist with Toto and touring Europe with his own band, Spinner is ready to get some exposure locally for his new songs. The latest album was a project that was funded by Spinner himself so he could get out from under record company influence and write songs his own way.

"I went way in the hole to make this record," said Spinner.

The hangar dance is a gig the Spinner band has had for the past two years, but they haven't played their old stomping ground Broussard's in a long time.

"It'll be good to see my friends," said Spinner.

The shows will both feature Spinner's older work and songs from the new album.
