The Southeast Missouri Symphony Orchestra will present its annual "Symphony Sampler" concerts at 2 and 3 p.m. Sept. 18 in the Shuck Music Recital Hall at the River Campus, 518 S. Fountain St. The short concerts (repeating the same program) will feature previews of the music to be performed this year. The concerts are free and open to the public. A drawing for free tickets to upcoming concerts will be held during the event, and there will be an opportunity to purchase tickets for upcoming symphony concerts. The award-winning bluegrass gospel band The Farm Hands Quartet will perform a concert at 6 p.m. Sept. 18 at Glen Allen United Methodist Church, Route ZZ and County Road 804 in Glenallen, Missouri. There will be no admission charge, but a free-will offering will be taken. The band's CDs and DVDs will be available for purchase. The Southeast Missouri State University Conservatory of Theatre and Dance will present its annual New Student Showcase at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 17 in the Bedell Performance Hall at the River Campus, 518 S. Fountain St. in Cape Girardeau. The free event will showcase performances from incoming freshmen and transfer students. A reception immediately will follow the performance in the John and Betty Glenn Convocation Center.
