Meyerhofer to read from poetry book Thursday
Michael Meyerhofer, winner of the Southeast Missouri State University Press 2005 Copperdome Poetry Chapbook Contest, will read poems from his book "Cardboard Urn," published this year by the Southeast Press, Thursday at 7 p.m. in Crisp Hall, room 125. The reading is free and open to the public. Copies of the book will be available for purchase and signing.
The Southeast Missouri Music Academy will present its ninth annual "Standing Ovations" benefit concert on Oct. 9 at 5 p.m. in Old St. Vincent's Church to raise money for the academy. Outstanding academy students featured this year will be Nicholas Summary (voice), Stephen Ansberry (violin), Amy Dai (piano), James Thompson and Meredith Busch (flute and harp duet). The concert will premiere two pieces written by Academy students: "Dream Island" composed by 10-year-old violinist Nathan Fridley, and "Winter Gloom" composed by 9-year-old pianist Abby Ritter. The Southeast Missouri State University Department of Theatre and Dance and the Southeast Missouri Symphony Orchestra will both open their 2005-2006 seasons this week. Theatre and dance starts its season tonight with "The Trojan Women" by Euripides at 8 p.m. in Rose Theatre. Performances will continue intermittently through Oct. 9. The symphony orchestra will begin its season Tuesday at 4 p.m. in Academic Auditorium with a program called "Encore! with Judith Farris," featuring opera and Broadway pieces with Southeast alumna Judith Farris on vocals.
