Vijay Seshadri, a Pulitzer Prize winner in poetry, will perform a public reading from 7 to 8 p.m. Wednesday in Dempster Hall's Glenn Auditorium, 1135 Greek Drive in Cape Girardeau. The event is free and open to the public. A book signing will follow the reading, and Seshadri's books will be available for purchase. Cape Girardeau Central High School will present "Is He Dead?", a play written by Mark Twain and adapted by David Ives, at 7 p.m. Thursday, 2 and 7 p.m. Oct. 1 and at 2 p.m. Oct. 2 in the Richard D. Kinder Performance Hall at the high school, 1000 S. Silver Springs Road in Cape Girardeau. The 2 p.m. show Oct. 1 will be sensory-friendly for children with special needs. Tiger tickets for students, staff and faculty will cost $5, and general admission will cost $7. Tickets are available for purchase in the school library.
Old Town Cape Inc. will host a farm-to-table dinner at 4 p.m. Oct. 2 on the Southeast Missouri State University River Campus lawn, 518 S. Fountain St. in Cape Girardeau. Chefs from several local downtown businesses will prepare a meal from locally sourced produce and meat. Tickets for the event will cost $100, and reservations can be made by calling Old Town Cape at (573) 334-8085 or by emailing heatherwinston@oldtowncape.org by Sept. 30.
A benefit for Old McKendree Chapel will begin at 4:30 p.m. Oct. 2 at the New McKendree South Campus, 225 S. High St. in Jackson. The benefit will feature singer/songwriter Maggie Thorn of Bloomfield, Missouri. A dinner, including hamburgers, hot dogs, chips and a drink for $5, will be held from 4:30 to 6 p.m. before the benefit begins. A free-will offering will be held during the benefit as well.
