MALDEN, Mo. -- The 81st annual Missouri/Mid South Gospel Singing Convention will be held today and tomorrow at the Malden Community Center in Malden. The event will begin each evening at 5:30 and will feature more than 25 gospel artists from several states and some direct from the Branson, Mo., stage. Artists scheduled to appear today are Heart to Heart, Gloryland Quartet, Full Circle, Sixty West, Canaanland Singers, Heartland Quartet, See The Light, Richmond Quartet, Tina Collins, Jennifer Krepps, Mark Cave, Rapture Road Vocal Band and the Barnett Singers. Featured Saturday will be Good News Singers, Hutsons, Joyful Noise, Marvin and Karen Lawless, Eldon Wright, Final Journey Quartet, Wendell Johnson, Wanda Mountain Boys, Belinda Venters, Southern Grace, Robert Penny, Eddie Norman and Dennis Baker. The chamber of commerce will provide concessions, and there is no admission charge. Donations will be taken to pay for building expenses, and door prizes will be awarded. KENNETT, Mo. -- The Azalea Garden Club is sponsoring the 2011 Delta Fair Photography Show, with entries to be exhibited Tuesday through Oct. 1 at the Delta Fairgrounds in Kennett, Mo. Those wishing to compete in the contest may submit their artwork from 1:30 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the American Legion Building on the fairgrounds. Anyone living within 100 miles of Kennett is eligible to participate. Entry forms may be picked up at the Kennett National Bank and Unico Bank in Kennett. The Crisp Museum at Southeast Missouri State University's River Campus, along with the Arts Council of Southeast Missouri, will host a lecture Friday and art critique Oct. 1 with special guest Dr. Grant Lund. Lund, who taught at Southeast 28 years and was awarded the title of professor emeritus in 1999, will return to Cape Girardeau to give a lecture on "The Genesis of Art." He will also moderate the art critique. The lecture will begin at 6:30 p.m. at the museum and is open to the public. Light refreshments will be provided. The drop-in art critique is scheduled for 10 a.m. to noon Oct. 1 in the Glenn Convocation Center. Artists and educators are encouraged to bring their works for critique.
