Mid Life Crisis to play Salvation Army Benefit
The band Mid Life Crisis will play a benefit Saturday from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. at the Riverview Room, located upstairs from Buckner Brewing Co. All proceeds from the performance will go to benefit the Salvation Army, including alcohol sales, to replenish the organization's coffers following Hurricane Katrina relief efforts. Gun and Knife show coming to Cape Girardeau Sept. 30
The Missouri Gun and Knife Show will be held at the Show Me Center Sept. 30 through Oct. 2. Hours are 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday.
Admission is $4 and children under 10 and women are free. Children under 15 must be accompanied by an adult at all times and all firearms regulations are strictly enforced.

Southeast plans flute, piano concert for Oct. 6
Paul Thompson and Matt Yount, faculty members in the Department of Music at Southeast Missouri State University, will present a concert of works for flute and piano by Johann Sebastian Bach at 8 p.m. Oct. 6 in Old St. Vincent's Church.
The program will be comprised of the four "authentic" sonatas of Bach -- E minor, E major, A major and B minor. For more information or tickets call the Performing Arts Box Office at 651-2265.
Symphony Orchestra opens season with Farris in concert
The Southeast Symphony Orchestra Commerce Bank Concert Series will open its 2005-2006 season Oct. 4 with a concert featuring Judith Farris at 8 p.m. in Academic Hall Auditorium.
The opener will feature 20th century symphonic works and Broadway show tunes with Farris of vocals. Dr. Sara Edgerton will conduct.

Arts Council launches membership drive, announces annual meeting
The Arts Council of Southeast Missouri has kicked off its annual membership drive. Members of the Arts Council participate in community events to promote the arts, and several levels of memberships are available.
The Arts Council has also announced its annual meeting and fundraiser, "Evening with the Arts," will take place on Oct. 21 at 6 p.m. at the Arts Council galleries. The meeting will be followed by a performance by pianist Jack Gibbons at Academic Hall at 8 p.m. Reservations are required by Oct. 14.

Arts Council accepting nominations for Dingeldein Award
The Arts Council of Southeast Missouri is currently accepting nominations for its annual Otto F. Dingeldein Award for Achievement of Excellence in the Arts. The award was established in 1975 to honor living persons who have made a significant impact on the cultural enrichment of the area.

Lueders collection opening reception Oct. 2 at Kent Library
Kent Library on the campus of Southeast Missouri State University will host an opening reception Oct. 2 at 2 p.m. for a new photographic exhibit called "A Lueders Retrospective, 1925-1995: Seven Decades of Photography."
The exhibit will feature 30 portraits of Southeast Missouri landmarks and distinguished personalities. Guest speakers for the opening include Dr. Frank Nickell, John L. Lueders and local photographer Tom Neumeyer.
