Faculty recital to be held

A Southeast Missouri State University faculty recital titled "Baroque & Romantic Masterpieces" will be performed by Sara Edgerton on cello and Matt Yount on piano at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Shuck Recital Hall at the River Campus, 518 S. Fountain St. in Cape Girardeau. Tickets for the event will cost $10.

Red Light Night season opener set

The Arts Council of Southeast Missouri will host the first Red Light Night of this season at 7 p.m. Thursday at the council headquarters, 16 N. Spanish St. in Cape Girardeau. The evening's discussion topic will be "Islamic Beliefs, Practices, its History and Various Forms of Islamic Art and Architecture," featuring Tahsin Khalid, professor at Southeast Missouri State University and member of the Islamic Center in Cape Girardeau. The event is free and open to the public.

Brodsky Archives reception set

A free opening reception for the recently acquired Louis Daniel Brodsky Poetry Archives will be from 3 to 5 p.m. Thursday in Kent Library, room 406, 1 University Plaza in Cape Girardeau. Refreshments will be served, and there will be a short program.

Sundays at Three concert planned

Brandon Christensen and Gabrielle Baffoni will come together with Southern Illinois University faculty and graduate students for a concert of music in fives at 3 p.m. Sept. 11 in the Shuck Recital Hall at the River Campus, 518 S. Fountain St. in Cape Girardeau. Tickets for the event will cost $17.

Conlee to perform in Miner, Missouri

Country legend John Conlee will perform at 7 p.m. Sept. 15 at the Miner Convention Center, 2610 E. Malone Ave. in Miner, Missouri. Conlee, a regular performer at the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville, Tennessee, has released 32 singles in his 40-year career, with 26 singles charting in the top 20 or better, and eight of those reaching No. 1 on the national country charts. General-admission tickets are $25 in advance or $30 the day of the concert.
