'Night of the Living Dead' auditions set

Acting Out!, a community theater group based in Jackson, will hold auditions for its upcoming production of "Night of the Living Dead" at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Cape Girardeau Central High School choir room. The audition is a cold reading, and no preparation is necessary. The play will be performed at 7 p.m. Oct. 17 and 19 at the Capaha band shell in Capaha Park in Cape Girardeau. Tickets are $5 each and are available at actingoutnight.brownpapertickets.com, at 573-382-0630 or at the Arena Building. Children younger than 13 must be accompanies by an adult. Those interested in portraying a zombie may send email to actingoutsemo@gmail.com. Zombies must be 15 years old or older.

Missouri Arts Council to hold session here

To map out a strategic plan for the next 50 years, the Missouri Arts Council will visit Cape Girardeau from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the Cape Girardeau Public Library, 711 N. Clark Ave. A networking session will be from 5 to 5:30 p.m. The Missouri Arts Council is celebrating 50 years of supporting and promoting art in Missouri. The discussions at Cape Girardeau and at other locations across the state will help the council prepare for the future. While registration isn't required, it will allow the council to send reminders of the coming session, as well as session notes after the session. Travel through time with Tom Neumeyer

The Historical Association of Greater Cape Girardeau will present "Time Travel with Tom," a look at the history of Cape Girardeau through photographs. Tom Neumeyer, an author, photographer and Arts Council of Southeast Missouri board member, will lead participants on the historic tour at the Glenn House on Saturday using images from his book, "Cape Girardeau: Then & Now." A cocktail hour is from 6 to 7 p.m., and the presentation is scheduled from 7 to 8 p.m., with additional time for questions and answers and tours of the house. Southeast Missouri State University will offer a class for the intermediate-level photographer, "The Art of Landscape and Portrait Photography." The six-week course begins at 6 p.m. Tuesday, and the cost is $69. Participants will learn composition, mastering controls of a digital camera, and lighting and exposure. Deadline set for calendar submissions

Oct. 10 is the deadline for artists who wish to submit works of art for publication in the Arts Council of Southeast Missouri's 2015 calendar. Members of the council are encouraged to submit entries for this inaugural project. For more information, call the Arts Council at 334-9233.

Council seeks entries for juried show

The Arts Council of Southeast Missouri is seeking submissions for its Regional Juried Exhibition. The deadline for entries is Oct. 17. Artists may submit works that interpret any aspect of Southeast Missouri, as well as bordering states. The work must reflect places, people and things that represent the five-state region. City of Cape solicits outdoor sculptures

The city of Cape Girardeau's Art Committee will accept submissions through Oct. 17 from sculptors wishing to participate in the 2015 Outdoor Sculpture Exhibit.
