Southeast welcomes students back

Southeast Missouri State University will welcome students for the start of the 2012-2013 academic year with 10 days of activities Thursday through Aug. 25. On Thursday, first-year students will begin moving into residence halls, and a Move-In Bash will cap the day, from 8 to 10 p.m. on the Kent Library lawn. On Friday, returning students will begin moving into residence halls. Returning students are invited to a Welcome Convocation at 10 a.m. at the Show Me Center, at which a schedule of opening week activities will be shared. First Step Orientation is scheduled for 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Aug. 18 in the University Center. Students who haven't attended a First Step orientation session must attend this event, or they will be prevented from registering for classes. A Welcome Back: First Night Party is open to all students at 9 p.m. in the Student Recreation Center-North. The annual Cape Girardeau Chamber of Commerce Welcome Back Picnic will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Aug. 19 in the Show Me Center. Classes for the fall semester begin Aug. 20. Theatre and Dance to hold open house

The Department of Theatre and Dance at Southeast Missouri State University will hold an open house Aug. 20 for theater and dance students to meet faculty and staff. The event is scheduled for 6 p.m. in the Rust Theatre at Southeast's River Campus. The event is open to all students majoring or minoring in theater and dance as well as those interested in theater and dance. During the open house, new theater and dance students will be paired with mentors, and new students will learn about the auditioning process for Southeast productions. Stunt show set at Harley Dealership

1 Wheel Revolution, an all Harley-Davidson professional motorcycle stunt show, will perform from noon to 5 p.m. Saturday at Black Diamond Bootheel Harley-Davidson in Scott City. The free show is part of the 2012 worldwide tour and is its only stop in the tri-state area. Along with the motorcycle stunts, there will be live music from the Rock & Rumble Band Contest from 3 to 4 p.m. Fresh barbecue and cold beverages will be offered. There will be giveaways and raffles. Chaffee hosts annual German Days Festival
