Folk musicians Gary and Roberta Gordon will be the guests of KRCU Public Radio when it presents a concert at Cave Vineyard in Ste. Genevieve, Missouri, on Aug. 22. The evening will begin with a social hour at 6, which will feature wine tastings provided by Cave Vineyard, as well as refreshments. The concert starts at 7:30. The Gordons are a husband-and-wife duo from Sparta, Illinois. Gary plays guitar and dobro, and Roberta plays the Appalachian autoharp. They have been performing since 1976. Southeast Missouri State University's Department of Theatre and Dance will hold open auditions for its fall productions at 1 p.m. Aug. 17 in the Bedell Performance Hall at the River Campus. Auditions will include principal and ensemble roles for the musical "Hairspray," Shakespeare's "MacBeth," Christopher Durang's comedy "Durang, Durang" and the Fault-Line Film Festival. Callbacks for theater auditions will follow the initial audition. Auditions are open, and the public is especially encouraged to try out for parts in "Hairspray." Ron L. Anderson, who was raised in Cape Girardeau and spent most of his adult life on the West Coast, will give a painting demonstration from 2 to 4 p.m. Aug. 21 at the Arts Council of Southeast Missouri, 32 N. Main St. in Cape Girardeau. Anderson studied at the Brooks Institute of Photography in Santa Barbara, California, and worked as a freelance/corporate photographer in the San Francisco Bay Area for 30 years. The photography of Jeanne Caola is on exhibit in August at the Cape Girardeau Conservation Nature Center. The "Stop and Smell the Flowers: Tower Rock & Other Roadside Vistas" exhibit may be viewed at the center from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday.
PERRYVILLE, Mo. -- Perryville has started a monthly Second-Friday Art Walk. Its first walk will be from 5 to 9:30 p.m. today in the Perryville downtown square. The walk will include various mediums, including photography, acrylics, pencil, abstract and metal sculpture, ceramics, stained glass, and wood carving/sculptures. It will feature the work of the late Margaret Ostendorf, Brannon Eldridge, Sheri Kattenbraker, Darlene Kiefer, Steve Hager, Carol Wichern, Tammie Welker, Tim Godlove and Rebecca Russel.
