Back-to-school bash set to music at The Camp
Radio station 107.1 The Zone and Save Yourself Records are holding "The Indie Zone's Back 2 School Bash" on Saturday at The Camp in Cape Girardeau. Doors open at 8:30 p.m. and the music gets started at 9 p.m. with performances by the St. Louis band Fragile Porcelain Mice and local bands the Tone Def All-Stars, Squadcar and Steerjockey. Sonya Lorelle comes to Tunes at Twilight
Missouri native Sonya Lorelle makes a return to Cape Girardeau to perform at tonight's Tunes at Twilight and at River Ridge Winery in Commerce, Mo. at 2 p.m. Saturday. She has previously performed at Underberg House Concerts and the River Ridge Winery in Commerce, Mo. Lorelle describes her music as piano-driven bluesy folk. She released her debut album "Independent Women" in 2003 and began touring. She currently lives in Norfolk, Va.

DuQuoin fair announces entertainment line-up
Saturday marks the start of the DuQuoin State Fair in DuQuoin, Ill. This year's fair runs until Sept. 6 and will feature livestock shows, tractor pulls, a demolition derby, a home show, horse shows and much more. Fabric painting workshop held in Paducah Saturday
The Museum of the American Quilter's Society in Paducah, Ky., will offer a fabric painting workshop from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday titled "Floral Painting on Fabric," taught by Toni McGuire, a board member of the National Society of Decorative Painters. Stone Hill Winery in Hermann, Mo., is having its 10th Annual Big Band Dance at 8 p.m. Saturday in the winery's dance pavillion, which will feature the sounds of Sinatra, Miller, Count Basie and the Dorseys. Open auditions being held for Fall Dance Concert
Southeast Missouri State University's Department of Theatre and Dance will hold open auditions for the department's Fall Dance Concert at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Parker Dance Studio. Dracula auditions to be held in Sikeston
The Sikeston Little Theatre is holding auditions for "Bram Stoker's Dracula" at 7 p.m., Sunday, Monday and Tuesday at the Albritton-Mayer Cultural Center, 506 S. Kingshighway in Sikeston, Mo. There are roles available for six men and two women. People who audition must be 15 or older. The production will be staged from Oct. 28 to Oct. 31 to coincide with Halloween. Cape Girardeau artist's work on display
The artwork of Craig Thomas, one of the artists working on the Mississippi River Tales murals, is currently on display at Three Rivers Community College in Poplar Bluff, Mo. The exhibit is housed in TRCC's Tinnin Fine Arts Center and runs until Sept. 24. At 12:30 p.m., Sept. 3, weather permitting, Thomas will create a sidewalk painting oustide of the center. Also on Sept. 3 will be an artist reception and lecture with Thomas.
Melroys album makes it onto the charts
The Melroys, a St. Louis-based band that makes frequent visits to Cape Girardeau, have made it onto the Americana Airplay Chart at number 33 this week with their album "The Melroys." The chart is album-based for new releases and represents the reported play of 70 participating radio stations, syndicated shows, satellite radio and internet radio stations nationwide.
