Touring production comes to Independence Place

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Teresa Kirchner of Nacogdoches, Texas, formerly of Murphysboro, Ill., has been selected for the Smithsonian National Portrait Gallery's Web site. Up to 10 artists in the competition will be featured on the Web site as part of the contest's "Portrait of an Artist." PADUCAH, Ky. -- The third annual Regional Idolsearch will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Kentucky Oaks Mall in Paducah. The Regional Idolsearch is a singing competition with the winner receiving a guaranteed audition for Fox's "American Idol" in Memphis, Tenn., on Sept. 5. The contest is open to 75 qualified contestants who will register at the mall on the day of the competition. Applicants must be between 16 and 28 years old as of Aug. 15. UNIONTOWN, Mo. -- Uniontown artist Kandye Mahurin has been selected to appear in Early American Life magazine's "Directory of Traditional American Crafts." Early American Life magazine focuses on decoration, architecture and arts through the 19th century.

The Arts Council of Southeast Missouri is currently seeking artists to participate in the 2005 Borders Regional Juried Art Competition.
