Annual cancer gala set for Saturday

The American Cancer Society will host its 2012 A Cure for Cape Annual Cancer Gala from 5 p.m. to midnight Saturday at The Venue Event Center in Cape Girardeau. There will be live and silent auctions, dinner, late-night dancing and more. Music will be provided by The Intention. Tickets range from $100 per ticket to $1,000 for a table of eight. Keith Sykes to play at Tunes at Twilight

Candlebox playing at Scott City dealership

The musical group Candlebox will bring its 2012 World Tour to Bootheel Harley-Davidson, 2100 E. Outer Road in Scott City, on Sept. 7. Also appearing will be Bone Kings and Headley Grange. Gates will open at 5 p.m., and the show will start at 6 p.m. Tickets may be purchased online at www.bootheelhd.com or at Bootheel Harley-Davidson. Tickets purchased before Aug. 31 will include free parking. Those attending may bring lawn chairs, but outside coolers, beverages and food aren't permitted. Please note: This is an all-weather event.

Job fair set for haunted attraction

A job fair will be held Saturday to fill a number of positions available at an upcoming haunted attraction, The Retribution, in Cape Girardeau. The fair, to be held at 211 Spring St., behind Sunny Hill, will begin at 2 p.m. Positions to be filled include artists, makeup artists, actors and staff. These jobs are suitable for those 18 and older. The Retribution will open Sept. 28 and will continue through Halloween. For more information, call 573-631-6677.

Ste. Gen concert will benefit KRCU

STE. GENEVIEVE, Mo. -- Judy Domeny Bowen will perform traditional ballads, folk songs and contemporary farm songs tonight at Concert in a Cave at Cave Vineyard at Ste. Genevieve. Proceeds from the concert will benefit KRCU, the National Public Radio station at Southeast Missouri State University. A social hour begins at 6:30 p.m. and will include Cave Vineyard wine tasting and light refreshments by Stonie's Sausage Shop. The concert will start at 7:30 p.m. Tickets for the event are available at www.semoalumni.com.
