University museum opens Hasen exhibition

The Southeast Missouri Regional Museum, on the campus of Southeast Missouri State University, will open its newest exhibition, "Burt Hasen: A Life in Art," Monday. A reception will be held Thursday from 3 to 5 p.m. at the museum with an ice cream social. The exhibition is the first comprehensive retrospective survey of Hasen's art from the 1950s to the present. The exhibition will last through Oct. 2. Museum hours are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday and noon to 4 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. For more information, call 651-2260.

Sedgewickville Fun Fest scheduled for Sept. 3

SEDGEWICKVILLE, Mo. -- The annual Sedgewickville Fun Fest will be held Sept. 3 from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. in downtown Sedgewickville. The festival will feature events like a mule jump, sand volleyball tournament, horseshoe and washer tournaments, kiddie tractor pull, a car and truck show and others. 'Trucks Stops and Coffee Shops' at Grace Cafe

Independent touring musicians Jason Harwell and Jon Black will bring their cross-country "Truck Stops and Coffee Shops" tour to a local coffee shop, Grace Cafe, on Sept. 8 at 7 p.m. The performance is free of charge and will be filmed for an upcoming documentary on the lives of touring independent musicians.

American Indian artifact show in Jefferson City

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. -- The Greater St. Louis Archaeological Society will sponsor an Indian artifact show at the Capitol Plaza Hotel in Jefferson City on Aug. 28. The show features artifacts like arrowheads, pottery, axes and other tools, some thousands of years old. The show is open to the public, and bringing in artifacts for identification and appraisal is encouraged. Tables are also available for display. Two local women have published books

Cape Girardeau resident Cindy Chubboy has published her second book with Publish America called "Flame of the Desert." The book is a mystery/suspense novel set in Egypt on an archaeological expedition. It is currently available. Sikeston resident Barbara Watkins has also published a book with the company called "Behind the Red Door," slated for release on Aug. 29. Watkins' book is a chronicle of the author's experiences with supernatural phenomena. She is currently working on her second book, "Thorns of an Innocent Soul." Paducah theater taking registration for classes

PADUCAH, Ky. -- Footlights, the Market House Theatre's acting troupes for grades 1-12, is currently accepting registrations for its first trimester of classes, which begins Aug. 27. Bootheel Youth Museum opens new exhibit Sept. 1

MALDEN, Mo. -- The Bootheel Youth Museum will hold a grand opening ceremony Sept. 1 for its newest exhibit called "Making Tracks on the Lewis and Clark Trail." The exhibit is a hands-on experience that teaches visitors about the topographic regions the explorers traversed on their journeys. For more information, call (573) 276-3600.
