Ragsdales plans new weekly music night
Jazz-funk trio Fill signed on to play each Thursday night at Ragsdales. The opening act has been left to their discretion and may include anything from an open mic night to another area band. Music should start at 8 p.m. on Thursdays in Ragsdales, below Buckner Brewing Co.
Father and son share message in Cape
Patrick Henry Hughes was born without eyes or the ability to fully extend his arms and legs. At 20 years old, he has become a virtuoso pianist, vocalist and trumpet player. Hughes and his father will speak at Cape First about overcoming life's difficulties regardless of your abilities or disabilities. "Not Disabilities — Abilities" will be at 7 p.m. Aug. 8. The event helps raise money for the Suzuki students of the Music Academy in Cape Girardeau to travel to Singapore in 2009. Admission is $12.50 in advance or $15 at the door. State arts council seeks nominations for award
The Missouri Arts Council is now accepting nominations for the 2009 Missouri Arts Award. The award honors people who have made significant and positive contributions to the arts industry of Missouri. The council salutes people in arts education, arts organization, creative communities, individual artist, leadership in the arts and philanthropy. Nominees must be current Missouri residents or a Missouri-based organization or community. Nominations must be postmarked by Sept. 8. For more details and the nomination form, visit semissourian.com.
