Nature center to share butterfly knowledge

As a way of helping people attract butterflies to their gardens, the Conservation Nature Center in Cape Girardeau will host a garden tour, "Blooms for Butterflies," from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Aug. 4 at the center. Plants do more than attract butterflies to their blooms. They also serve as host plants for caterpillars. Most butterflies feed on one type of plant as larvae and another as adults. To keep butterflies coming back, gardeners need to understand their cycle and help meet their needs. On this tour, participants will learn to identify the butterflies that visit, search for their larvae and watch for birds feeding on the abundance of caterpillars. The tour is suitable for ages 8 and older. No registration is required.
