The Arts Council of Southeast Missouri, 32 N. Main St. in Cape Girardeau, will host an exhibit featuring the work by students of the Summer Art Academy at Southeast Missouri State University. The artwork will be displayed at the Arts Council through August. Also, new works by the Visual Arts Cooperative will be shown at the Jean Chapman Gallery, and window exhibitors for August are Mary Riley and Jean Rissover. The council's Gallery Wall will display pieces from residents of nursing homes who recently took part in on-site Summer Art Academy workshops.
Jared Jinkerson will demonstrate how to create "handmade wallpaper" designs during the Saturday Social from 1 to 3 p.m. Aug. 16 at the Arts Council of Southeast Missouri, 32 N. Main St. in Cape Girardeau. He will use masking tape to create funky, colorful designs. All ages are welcome.
The Arts Council of Southeast Missouri, 32 N. Main St. in Cape Girardeau, will present its second annual Members Exhibit on Sept. 5 to 26. The staff and exhibit committee will identify talent they wish to feature in the Lorimier Gallery and Gallery 100. The Members Exhibit is sponsored by 573 Magazine.
Children will have the opportunity Tuesday through Thursday to learn drawing, painting, collage and three-dimensional design methods at Cateye Glasses Art Studio, 2117 Broadway in Cape Girardeau. The two classes are for ages 9 and over from 10 a.m. to noon, and ages 5 to 8 from 3 to 5 p.m. daily. Instructors will use the work of contemporary artists to demonstrate methods of artmaking. A summer bead trunk show, offering high-quality designer beads, will be at Sloan and Themis, 31C N. Main St. in Cape Girardeau, Wednesday through Aug. 2 and Aug. 6 to 9. The show will have a selection of designer-quality beads, including gemstone beads, freshwater petals, Murano glass and more.
BENTON, Mo. -- A photo contest will be part of this year's Benton Neighbor Day, which will be the Friday and Saturday before Labor Day. Photos will be grouped in these categories for judging: youth (age 12 and younger), professionals, landscapes, people, things, animals, flowers and plants, and images of Benton and Scott counties. Participants may submit their work from Aug. 1 to 27 at Benton City Hall, Farm Bureau Insurance at Benton, or at 837 N. Kingshighway in Cape Girardeau during regular business hours. The deadline for submissions is Aug. 27.
A Books Are Fun Sale will be next week in the lobby of SoutheastHEALTH, sponsored by the hospital's auxiliary. It will be from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday and from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday. The sale will include books and unique gifts at fantastic prices. Proceeds will benefit hospital projects.
