'Trojan Women' play sets open auditions at Rose

The Department of Theatre and Dance at Southeast Missouri State University will hold open auditions for "The Trojan Women," a Greek tragedy by Euripides, at 6 p.m. on Aug. 24 at the Rose Theatre. Callbacks will be Aug. 26. The play depicts the story of the women of Troy after the Trojan War as they await captivity by the Greeks. Parts are available for five men and 16 women and will require performances of classical or neo-classical poetic tragedy. Women will be required to participate in dance and movement auditions. Spaces still available for July 25 to 29 arts camps

Spaces are still available for arts camps at the Arts Council of Southeast Missouri. The camps will take place Monday to July 29 and include a variety of art forms. For more information, call the arts council at 334-9233.

Garden Gallery nominated for top retailer award

The Garden Gallery in Cape Girardeau, above Grace Cafe at the corner of Broadway and Pacific Street, has been nominated for the 2005 Top 100 Retailers of American Craft by "Niche" magazine. The awards will be presented Aug. 5 in Philadelphia.

'Pied Piper' invites audience participation

PADUCAH, Ky. -- The Market House Theater in Paducah will present "The Pied Piper Lunch Box Theatre" Monday through July 31 at part of the Paducah Summer Festival. The show is an audience-participation musical comedy for all ages with lunch provided. For more information, call (270) 444-6828.

'Mitford' play returns to Stinson Memorial Library

ANNA, Ill. -- "A Slice of Mitford" will be performed July 29 and 30 in Anna at the Stinson Memorial Library at 7 p.m. and July 31 at 4 p.m. The play is based on the second, third and fourth books in the "Mitford" series by author Jan Karon. Foreign film screened at Cape public library

The Spanish-language film "Carol's Journey" will be shown Tuesday at 7 p.m. at the Cape Girardeau Public Library. The English-subtitled film tells the story of a young Spanish-American girl who travels to Spain during the Spanish Civil War in 1938. The film has mature themes.
