Crown Valley hosts brewer's contest

STE. GENEVIEVE, Mo. -- Crown Valley Brewing and Distilling Co. will host a home brewer's contest from noon to 4 p.m. July 31 at the brewery, 13326 Route B. Mike Mattingly will provide music. Contestants can enter their beer into five categories: Vienna lager, fruit beer, blonde ale, weizen and kolsch. There will be a winner for each category as well as an overall "home-brew master" whose beer will be featured in the brewery's Brewmaster Dinner in the fall. There will be a $5 fee for all noncontestants wanting to sample the entries. For more information, call 573-756-9700.

Campground hosts bluegrass festival

GLENALLEN, Mo. --The Old Grassy Summer Festival will kick off at 7 p.m. Aug. 6 and will run through Aug. 8 at the Arrowhead campgrounds in Glenallen. The three-day event will include nine bands playing for the crowd on the banks of the Castor River. Whitewater, Lakewood Bluegrass, Cabin Fever, Mikayla and the Davis Tradition, Cumberland Gap, Split Rail, and Charlie and the Girls are scheduled to play. Tickets are $10 for Friday only and $20 for Saturday only. A weekend pass is $28. Sunday is free. For more information, call 573-225-4050.

Piano workshop tour comes to Cape

Randall Faber's Piano Adventures Summer 2010 Workshop Tour will start at 9:30 a.m. July 28 at Southeast Missouri State University's River Campus. Museum hosts kids rodeo art contest

SIKESTON, Mo. -- The Sikeston Depot Museum will hold the annual Cowboy Up! Kids' Art Contest for two age categories: 7 and younger and 8 to 12 years old. Art will be displayed July 31 to Aug. 14. Winners will be announced at the Cowboy Up! Arts Festival, Aug. 13 and 14. Grand prize includes tickets to the Sikeston Jaycee Bootheel Rodeo. The art will be used for rodeo T-shirts. Artwork should be no larger than 11 by 14 inches and have a rodeo theme. Include the artist's name and age on the back. Entries must be submitted to the Depot Museum, 116 W. Malone Ave., before July 23. Depot hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Call 573-481-9967 for more information.
