The 13th annual Friedheim Fun Fest will be held Saturday at Friedheim, across the road from Trinity Lutheran Church. The activites will kick off at 10 a.m. with a tractor ride. A potluck supper will be held at 6 p.m. Those attending are asked to bring a dish of meat, vegetables or dessert, as well as their own drinks and a lawn chair. Table service will be provided. Music willl begin at 6 p.m., with entertainment provided by volunteers. Donations will be collected, with all proceeds going to Melaina's Magical Playland, a handicapped-accessible playground being constructed in Cape County Park North. The River City Yacht Club in the Port Cape Girardeau restaurant will be the site for a fundraising auction at 6:30 p.m. Saturday to benefit the River City Players, Cape Girardeau's community theater. A variety of donated items will be auctioned off, such as gift cards, spa services, art and jewelry. The centerpiece item for sale will be two sets of six Siegfried Reinhardt prints donated by Randy Hayes. Tickets are $5 and must be purchased in advance. Finger foods will be provided by Port Cape. The 25th annual Capaha Classic 5K Run and Children's One-Mile will be held Saturday, beginning at 8 a.m. at Capaha Park. The 5K course gives runners a challenging and scenic run through the rolling hills of residential Cape Girardeau. The Children's One-Mile run is a loop around Capaha Park designed specifically for the young runner. This course makes it easy for spectators to watch the children for the entire mile. Registration is $15 pre-event and $20 the day of the event. Registration and packet pick-up is from 6:45 to 7:40 a.m. Saturday at shelter No. 1. Cape Girardeau's Civil War Roundtable will present a series of lectures at the Cape River Heritage Museum, 538 Independence St., on three Saturday in July. Opening the series from 2 to 3:15 p.m. Saturdays will be Mike Hahn. He will reflect on letters written by a soldier. The second lecture will be presented by Mike Shain from 2 to 3:15 p.m. July 21. Shain has a personal interest in the war because of letters that have been passed down in his family. Dub Suedekum will give the final presentation from 2 to 3:15 p.m. July 28, speaking on the life and times of Gov. Claiborne Fox Jackson. In addition to the lecture series, the Roundtable will hold a meeting at the museum 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday. Featured speaker will be Michael Comer discussing "Hunter-Dawson Civil War History" with a focus on the New Madrid, Mo., area. For more information about the museum and its exhibits, call 334-0405.

LOUIS -- Charter Communications, the presenting title and stage sponsor of the 2012 Taste of St. Louis, is bringing a headline act and battle-of-the-bands competition to the city's favorite festival. Charter's Center Stage 2012 Battle of the Bands is a national, online competition featuring talented musicians and bands of every genre. The band with the most votes will win a prize package valued at up to $25,000 and will open for a yet-to-be-announced, nationally known artist, playing before thousands of fans at Taste of St. Louis on Sept. 29 in downtown St. Louis at Soldiers Memorial. To enter the contest, bands should submit videos through July 30 at charter.com/centerstage or facebook.com/chartercom.
