River City Players to perform 'The Real Thing'

The River City Players community theater group will perform five nights of the Tony Award-winning Tom Stoppard comedy "The Real Thing" June 16, 17 and 22 to 24. Michael Johnathon performs in coffee house

Michael Johnathon, folk musician and host of National Public Radio's "Woodsongs Old Time Radio Hour," will perform a concert at Grace Cafe in Cape Girardeau at 7 p.m. July 6. Scott City holds annual summer festival

Scott City will hold its 30th annual Mid-Summer Festival today and Saturday at the Scott City Park. Gates open at 4 p.m. today with the Mid-South Fair Talent Show starting at 5 p.m. Events begin at 11 a.m. Saturday with a parade down Main Street. University to hold All-State Lions Band

The Southeast Missouri State University music department will hold the 2006 Missouri All-State Lions Band June 26 to 28 on the university campus. The 80-plus member band selected from elite Missouri high school musicians will be on campus to rehearse for its performance at the 2006 International Lions Convention Parade in Boston on July 1. Rehearsals will be daily at Brandt Music Hall and Houck Stadium, with a farewell concert at 7:30 p.m. June 28 at the Capaha Park Bandshell before the Cape Girardeau Municipal Band concert. French veillee at Ste. Genevieve Saturday

STE. GENEVIEVE, Mo. -- The Felix Valle State Historic Site will play host to a traditional French "veillee" from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday. BRAG announces juried art show winners

SIKESTON, Mo. -- The Bootheel Regional Art Guild recognized winners from its 22nd Annual Fine Art Judged Exhibition on May 21 at the Sikeston Depot Historical and Cultural Center in Sikeston, Mo. The contest was judged by Dr. Sam Bishop, an art professor at Southeast Missouri State University. Winners included Cleda Curtis-Neal for Best of Show, still life and portrait; Herb Wickham for landscape; Annie Schuchart for animal/wildlife; Connie Blattner for floral; Vicki Outman for abstract; and Utahna Hancock for three-dimensional.
