Schoenberger to play violin at Carnegie Hall
Cape Girardeau violinist Liesl Schoenberger, a recent graduate of Notre Dame Regional High School, will perform at Carnegie Hall June 18 with a group of violinists from the Indiana University String Academy in Bloomington.
The pre-college string group Violin Virtuosi will play at Carnegie Hall's Weill Recital Hall in a benefit for Opus 118 -- Harlem Center for Strings. Opus 118 provides string instrument instruction in public schools and five music classes during non-school hours at the center in East Harlem.
The Violin Virtuosi consists of 13 violinists between the ages of 13 and 17 who perform both as soloists and as an ensemble.
The program is titled "Kids Play for Kids." They will perform works by Kreisler, Sarasate, Brahms, Dvorak, Ravel, Shostakovich and Saint-Saens.
Schoenberger will solo on Ravel's "Tzigane."
Her teacher, Mimi Zweig, scheduled the concert after the group decided against touring Europe this summer for the third time in the wake of Sept. 11.
Schoenberger will begin attending Indiana University in the fall.
