Tickets on sale for River City Players' musical
Ticket sales have begun for the River City Players community theater's production of "The World Goes Round: The Songs of Kandor and Ebb." The show will be performed June 17 and 18 and June 22 though 25 at the River City Yacht Club. John Kandor and Fred Ebb are a Tony-winning musical writing team with credits such as "Chicago," "Cabaret" and "Kiss of the Spiderwoman." Tickets are on sale at Port Cape Girardeau. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. June 17, 18, 24 and 25 with dinner at 7 p.m. and a show at 8 p.m. June 22 and 23 are show-only dates; doors open at 7:30 p.m. and the show begins at 8 p.m.
A First Friday opening reception will be held today at The Artist Studio, located at 38A N. Main St., from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. "Mini's," an exhibit of more than 50 acrylic paintings by Judy Barks-Westrich, will be featured at the opening. WICKLIFFE, Ky. -- Family-friendly, hands-on activities and demonstrations will be presented at Wickliffe Mounds State Historic Site from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. June 11 during the site's annual Family Fun Day. MILLERSVILLE -- G. Russell Peterman, a retired teacher who lives near Millersville, recently published a collection of poems called "I am Cabbage and other Poems." The book is a collection of long and short poems with the last poem from a retired firefighter dedicated to those firefighters lost on Sept. 11, 2001. STE. GENEVIEVE, Mo. -- The Felix Valle House State Historic Site will hold a traditional French "veillee" from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. on June 11. The "veillee" is an old-style French social gathering that has become a summer tradition at the home. POPLAR BLUFF, Mo. -- The Claudia Foundation, a not-for-profit organization promoting college education based in Poplar Bluff, will present a performance by the Springfield Ballet Company at the Bloodworth House on June 11.
