First Friday opening at Gallery 1.2.5

Gallery 1.2.5, located at 125 Main St. in Cape Girardeau, will hold a First Friday opening reception today from 4 to 8 p.m. with wine and hors d'oeuvres. The gallery features a unique collection of oils, prints and accessories.

Tickets on sale for River City Players' musical

Ticket sales have begun for the River City Players community theater's production of "The World Goes Round: The Songs of Kandor and Ebb." The show will be performed June 17 and 18 and June 22 though 25 at the River City Yacht Club. John Kandor and Fred Ebb are a Tony-winning musical writing team with credits such as "Chicago," "Cabaret" and "Kiss of the Spiderwoman." Tickets are on sale at Port Cape Girardeau. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. June 17, 18, 24 and 25 with dinner at 7 p.m. and a show at 8 p.m. June 22 and 23 are show-only dates; doors open at 7:30 p.m. and the show begins at 8 p.m.

First Friday opening at The Artist Studio today

A First Friday opening reception will be held today at The Artist Studio, located at 38A N. Main St., from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. "Mini's," an exhibit of more than 50 acrylic paintings by Judy Barks-Westrich, will be featured at the opening. The studio will also be accepting signups for two upcoming workshops, one for children on drawing and painting and an adult workshop on watercolor. For more information, call the studio at 651-4464.

Wickliffe Mounds to hold Family Fun Day June 11

WICKLIFFE, Ky. -- Family-friendly, hands-on activities and demonstrations will be presented at Wickliffe Mounds State Historic Site from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. June 11 during the site's annual Family Fun Day. Market House offers summer drama classes

PADUCAH, Ky. -- The Market House Theatre will be offering summer drama classes for preschool through eighth-grade students in June and July. A variety of classes will be offered in several styles with fun activities for the children. The deadline for registration for June classes is Thursday, and July 1 for July classes. Trail of Tears, Bollinger Mill to present concerts

Two spring folk concerts will be held June 11 and 12 at Trail of Tears State Park and Bollinger Mill State Historic Site. The June 11 concert will take place at 7 p.m. at Trail of Tears and the June 12 concert will be held Sunday at 4:30 p.m. at Bollinger Mill. Traditional string-band tunes and songs will be performed by the Black-Eyed Susies, a band from St. Louis. Local author releases book of collected poems

MILLERSVILLE -- G. Russell Peterman, a retired teacher who lives near Millersville, recently published a collection of poems called "I am Cabbage and other Poems." The book is a collection of long and short poems with the last poem from a retired firefighter dedicated to those firefighters lost on Sept. 11, 2001. Peterman has also published several fiction works. The poetry collection is available online at www.iuniverse.com and may be found at Barnes and Noble Booksellers in Cape Girardeau.

Felix Valle House holds French "veillee" June 11

STE. GENEVIEVE, Mo. -- The Felix Valle House State Historic Site will hold a traditional French "veillee" from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. on June 11. The "veillee" is an old-style French social gathering that has become a summer tradition at the home. Opera, ballet performances coming to Poplar Bluff

POPLAR BLUFF, Mo. -- The Claudia Foundation, a not-for-profit organization promoting college education based in Poplar Bluff, will present a performance by the Springfield Ballet Company at the Bloodworth House on June 11. The event is open to the public and admission is free. The company will perform an hour-long program starting at 2:30 p.m. in the Bloodworth House Gardens, located at 626 Cynthia St. in Poplar Bluff.
