In July, the Arts Council of Southeast Missouri, 32 N. Main St., in Cape Girardeau, will display the work of the River Region Photography Association in an exhibit titled "CLICK." The work of about 30 of the group's members will be shown. Information on where each image was made and how the artist captured it will be included. Opening reception for "CLICK" will be from 5 to 9 p.m. July 11. The group is a camera club that is open to the public. It strives to educate local photographers, from beginners to professionals. The Cape Girardeau Conservation Nature Center will display the outdoor photographs of Victor Moss in July. The exhibit will include images of birds, mammals, reptiles, amphibians, insects and wildflowers. The Nature Center is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday.
The Cape Girardeau Municipal Band will perform at the Capaha Park band shell at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday. The director of the group is Ron Nall, in his 22nd year as conductor. Bring lawn chairs and blankets to enjoy a concert under the stars. The Wednesday evening concert series continues through July 30.
The River City Players will present "A Bench in the Sun" at the Port Cape Girardeau restaurant, 19 N. Water St. The comedy centers on two "Odd Couple"-like men living in a retirement home whose world is shaken by the arrival of a former movie starlet. On July 10, the show will include a dessert buffet at 6:30 p.m., with the play beginning at 7. On July 11 and 12, it will include a dinner buffet starting at 7 p.m., and show time is 8. Dr. Carl Bloom, author and literature professor at Southeast Missouri State University, will discuss "The Risks and Rewards of Self-Publishing" at the next meeting of the Southeast Missouri Writers Guild.
