Nature center to host lobby art gallery

The Cape Girardeau Conservation Nature Center will host an art gallery titled "Into the Woods" throughout July in the center's lobby, 2289 County Park Drive in Cape Girardeau. The gallery will feature a collection of oil and watercolor paintings by Vel Marshall. The paintings focus on birds, wildflowers and trees found in Southeast Missouri.

Great River Freedom Rally to be held

Lawless Harley-Davidson will host Great River Freedom Rally at 6 p.m. July 1 to 3 at Lawless, 2100 E. Outer Road in Scott City. The three-day music festival will feature vendors, a beer garden, stunt shows, demo rides and more. Each day will feature a live music performance, with Zoso, The Ultimate Led Zeppelin Experience, on July 1 and 2; Jackyl, from the television show "Full Throttle," on July 2; Eliminator KC, an authentic ZZ Top concert recreation, July 3; and Powder Mill, a country-rock band, July 3. General-admission tickets will be $25 per day, or $60 for all three days. VIP tickets, which include sitting in the VIP pit in front of the stage and entry for a chance to win a meet-and-greet, will cost $45 a day or $100 for all three days. John Anderson also will perform at 6 and 8 p.m. July 3 at Isle Casino, 777 Main St. in Cape Girardeau. McDermott to hold book signing

Former Jackson resident and author Cindy McDermott will host a book launch for her second book, "The Relatives," from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. July 2 at Wib's Drive-In, 1204 N. High St. in Jackson. McDermott will hold the signing in the Wib's parking lot. McDermott published "The Relatives" in May.
