Lorimier officiates weddings at Red House

Louis Lorimier, played by local George Dordoni, will officiate weddings in an 1806-style ceremony as couples renew their vows at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Red House Interpretive Center. CSPAN2 book bus coming to library July 6

CSPAN2's Book Bus will visit the Cape Girardeau Public Library on July 6 from noon to 2 p.m. with special activities for children ages 5 to 8, including a storytime from noon to 12:30 p.m. with readings by local government leaders. CSPAN staff will also interview locals about their favorite nonfiction books on government, politics and history for a later broadcast. Local band Inkognito calls it quits after 8 years

Local rock band Inkognito has called it quits after eight years based in Cape Girardeau. Group frontman Randy Mallett said Inkognito broke up due to creative differences but separated on a good note.

Grateful Dead guitarist's band comes to St. Louis

ST. LOUIS -- Former Grateful Dead guitarist Bob Weir and his band Ratdog will perform at the Fox Theatre in St. Louis at 8 p.m. July 8. Weir is best known for his work with the Grateful Dead but boasts a strong solo career and has cemented himself at the top of the current jam scene with Ratdog. Cave Vineyard to hold Mushroom Festival July 8

STE. GENEVIEVE, Mo. -- Ste. Genevieve's Cave Vineyard will hold its first-ever Mushroom Festival from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. July 8. Members of the St. Louis Mycology Society will display and discuss mushrooms in the vineyard's own Saltpeter Cave, and local mushroom growers will be on hand selling their products. Southern Illinois featured on PBS show

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- WSIU-TV, the area PBS affiliate in Carbondale, will air an episode of "Wild Chicago's Illinois Road Trip" about Southern Illinois at 5:30 p.m. Sunday. The episode will be the first in a series featuring the seven major geographical areas of Illinois. Sites featured will be Benton, Ill., where George Harrison once stayed; the Garden of the Gods in Shawnee National Forest; the Blue Sky Winery and Vineyard near Makanda; and the Hidden Lake Bed and Breakfast in Jonesboro.

Elton John and Tim Rice's 'Aida' comes to Muny

ST. LOUIS -- The Elton John and Tim Rice musical "Aida" will open a weeklong run Monday at The Muny in St. Louis' Forest Park. The musical about a love triangle between the would-be leader of ancient Egypt, the daughter of a pharaoh and an enslaved Nubian princess has won four Tony Awards. Symphony Orchestra members perform at art museum

ST. LOUIS -- Members of the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra will perform at 3 p.m. Sunday at the St. Louis Art Museum for the museum's "Sounds from the Collection" concert. The free performance will include musicians on oboe, violin, viola and cello. Works in the museum will be interpreted through music and discussion, focusing on compositions from the Baroque period as well as classical, impressionist and contemporary art.
