Parks and Rec offers trip to The Muny

The Cape Girardeau Parks and Recreation Department is sponsoring a trip Thursday to The Muny in Forest Park in St. Louis to see "Beauty and the Beast." Cost for the trip is $53 per person, which includes tickets in Terrace B and a charter bus ride to and from St. Louis. The group will meet at 5 p.m. Thursday at the Osage Community Centre. The show starts at 8:15 p.m. Tickets can be bought as long as available before Wednesday. For questions or to purchase tickets, call 339-6340.

Wildlife photo contest seeks entries

PUXICO, Mo. -- Mingo Swamp Friends and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Services Mingo National Wildlife Refuge are sponsoring the fifth annual photography contest to raise awareness of the value and beauty of the Mingo National Wildlife Refuge. The contest is open to amateur and professional photographers of all ages and will be split into two divisions, youth (17 and younger) and adult. The categories for the youth division are Mingo landscape, native wildlife, native plant, people in nature and artistically enhanced. The categories are the same for the adult division, with an added category: professional. Photos must be 10-by-14-inches or smaller and must arrive by 4 p.m. July 1 at the Refuge business office at 24279 State Highway 51. Cash prizes and ribbons will be awarded to best-of-show and alternate best-of-show, as well as first-, second- and third-place winners in all 11 categories.
