Blues concert planned at Bollinger Mill

BURFORDVILLE, Mo. -- Enjoy an afternoon of blues music Sunday at Bollinger Mill State Historic Site in Burfordville. Bruce Zimmerman and the Water Street Band will perform at 2 p.m., and the public is invited to attend. Please bring lawn chairs for seating. Refreshments will be provided. *** Reading program explores cultures

SIKESTON, Mo. -- The annual summer reading program "One World, Many Cultures," will kick off June 27 at the Sikeston Public Library. Activities for children entering kindergarten through second grade will be from 1:30 to 3 p.m. on Mondays, except for July 4. Events for children entering third through fifth grades will be from 1:30 to 3 p.m. Tuesdays beginning June 28. Summer reading events for preschoolers are at 10 a.m. Wednesdays beginning June 29. Teen readers (those entering sixth grade and up) will meet from 1:30 to 3 p.m. Wednesdays beginning June 29. Stories and activities for teen readers will center on "The Red Pyramid" by Rick Riordan. Summer reading events will continue through the first week of August. 'Happy Days' coming to Sikeston theater

SIKESTON, Mo. -- The Sikeston Little Theatre will present "Happy Days," a musical comedy play based on the classic 1970s TV sitcom. It is Little Theatre's annual youth production for all actors between sixth and 12th grades. Shows are at 7 p.m. June 23 to 25 and 2 p.m. June 26. *** Entries sought for Justice Film Festival

WARRENSBURG, Mo. -- Entries are being accepted for the second annual Show-Me Justice Film Festival, planned for Oct. 13 to 15 on the campus of the University of Central Missouri in Warrensburg. The festival strives to raise awareness about social injustice by leveraging a variety of artistic media. This year's festival is being coordinated by the UCM Department of Communication in coordination with the Warrensburg Arts Commission, the Greater Warrensburg Area Chamber of Commerce and Visitors Bureau, and other civic organizations. Filmmakers are encouraged to submit feature films and short animated, experimental, narrative, and documentary films that put a face on the many shades of injustice. Entries should be submitted through the online festival entry service WithoutaBox.com. Entry fees range from $20 to $40. The deadline to enter is Aug. 15. Music, art festival planned in Springfield

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- The Show Me Music and Arts Festival is a three-day music extravaganza with performances by top artists like Tim McGraw, One Republic, Trace Adkins, Train, Little Big Town, Big & Rich, Gretchen Wilson and more. The festival also features a Celebrity Chef Pavilion with Food Network chefs and a Comedy Tent Stage featuring six nationally touring comedians. Organizers added fundraising efforts like auctions and a Bucket Brigade encouraging people to "Buck UP for Joplin." Tickets are $139 for a three-day pass; $39 for Friday; $59 Saturday and $65 Sunday.
