Tickets available June 2 for Zoegirl concert

Tickets go on sale Monday for an Aug. 16 concert of Zoegirl in Cape Girardeau.

The Praisefest concert will benefit the Lutheran Family and Children's Services of Missouri's local office. The concert features Zoegirl, a contemporary Christian trio that won the 2002 Dove Award for best new group. The group includes Jackson native Kristen Swinford.

Also performing will be the Travis Lee Band, Mike Dumey and Robyn Hosp.

The concert will be held at 7 p.m. Aug. 16 at the Show Me Center. Tickets are available by visiting www4.semo.edu/showmecenter/tickets.htm.

Sunday Showcase series auditions on Monday

The Jackson Area Arts Council and the Jackson Parks and Recreation Department will hold auditions at 7 p.m. Monday and Tuesday for their "Bring Your Own Chair" Sunday Showcase series.

The auditions will be held in the meeting room at the Chamber of Commerce. Performance dates are June 22, July 20, Aug. 17, Sept. 21 and Oct. 19 at the city park band shell.

Sisters' paintings of Europe displayed

Paintings by Ann Murphy Schuchart and Margaret Murphy Schneider will be on display Sunday to June 29 at the Margaret Harwell Art Museum in Poplar Bluff, Mo.

The "Artful Excursions" exhibit opens with a reception from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday.

Violinist Miriam Brehmer will perform during the reception.

Guild to hold workshop for children's writers

Heartland Writers Guild will present its Children's Writers Workshop June 14 at the University Center at Southeast Missouri State University.

The event begins at 8 a.m. and concludes at 4 p.m.,

Speakers include Julia Messina, associate editor of Cricket magazine, Sheila Wood Foard, a freelance writer and instructor at the Institute of Children's Literature and Jeanie Stewart, author and director of the Conan Memorial Library in Hayti, Mo.

The Guild will hold its regular meeting at 2 p.m. June 8 at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Sikeston, Mo.

Circus Flora to perform 'Da Capo' in St. Louis

Circus Flora will bring its big top tent to Powell Symphony Hall in St. Louis for performances June 12 to 29 in a new production called "Da Capo."

The performance times are at 7 p.m. Tuesday through Friday, at 2 and 7 p.m. Saturday and at 1 and 5 p.m. Sunday. The show will be air-conditioned.

"Da Capo" features three top-billing acts: the Flying Wallendas, the Flying Cortes and the Dzhigit Riders.

Ticket prices range from $10 to $25 and are available at MetroTix outlets or online at www.metrotix.com.

Open auditions to be held for Paducah production

Market House Theatre in Paducah, Ky., will hold open auditions June 9 and 10 for "The City Mouse and the Country Mouse."

The auditions will be held at 5:30 p.m. in the Studio Theatre in Paducah.

Three actors, high school to adult, are needed for the cast. Anyone auditioning will be asked to read from the script, participate in theatre games and learn one of the songs from the show.

The show will be performed July 21 to 27.

Folk music concerts scheduled for June 7, 8

The Gordons, a duo from Sparta, Ill., will perform folk music during weekend concerts June 7 and 8 in Missouri parks. Guests are encouraged to bring lawn chairs.

The concert will be at 8 p.m. June 7 at the Trail of Tears State Park amphitheater. June 8 the concert will be at 4:30 p.m. in the picnic area of Bollinger Mill State Historic Site. In case of rain, the concert will be at the Little Ole Opry in Burfordville.

The performances are sponsored by the Missouri Department of Natural Resources.
