The Cape Girardeau Municipal Band will begin its summer concert season with two concerts Monday. The band will play at the Osage Community Centre at 10:30 a.m. and at the Capaha Park Bandshell at 7:30 p.m. Starting June 8, the band will play every Wednesday at 8 p.m. at the Capaha Park Bandshell through Aug. 10, excluding July 6. A First Friday exhibit will open June 3 from noon to 9 p.m. at Garden Gallery, above Grace Cafe, featuring the fiber work of Myka Bohnsack. The three-dimensional sculptures are part of work that Bohnsack completed over the past year in an independent study with Pat Reagan, chair of the art department at Southeast Missouri State University.
PADUCAH, Ky. -- Today and Saturday, Paducah will present the third annual Lower Town Fine Art and Music Festival, featuring art exhibited in more than 20 galleries and outdoor booths along with bands from across the country. Featured musical acts include jazz and blues artists Fred James and Mary-Ann Brandon, Al Delory's nine-piece salsa/jazz band and Johnny Sansone's Zydeco Band from Louisiana. Timothy Bearden, a founding member of the Cape Filmmaker's Cooperative, was recently awarded with an internship with the American Film Institute. Bearden, a film student at Southern Illinois University-Carbondale, has been an active member of Cape Girardeau's independent filmmaking movement. His first assignment with the film institute will be to work on the organization's "The AFI Honors George Lucas," a film that will air on CBS. Integrated Counterbalance, a group of six local artists, will have a collective art show June 3 to 5 at the H&H Building at 400 Broadway. The group specializes in nonrepresentation art in a variety of media. Friday and Saturday hours are from 5 to 10 p.m. and Sunday hours are from 1 to 5 p.m.
VIENNA, Ill. -- Shawnee Winery will be kicking off the summer season this weekend with a wine festival Saturday and Sunday. The festival will feature food, drink and music. Kicking off the weekend will be Shady Mix, a mostly acoustic bluegrass band that has toured Japan and Europe. The band will play Saturday from 1 to 5 p.m. Downtime, a rock/R&B group, will play Sunday from 1:30 to 5:30 p.m. There is an admission fee for each day, and attendees will receive a free glass of wine with admission. STE. GENEVIEVE, Mo. -- Ste. Genevieve will play host to a weekend-long Antique Show and Sale June 10 to 12 at the Knights of Columbus hall. A reception will be held June 10 from 6 to 8 p.m. for early guests. The show and sale runs from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. June 11 and from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. June 12. A music festival in honor of the late musician Randy Leiner, frontman of The Melroys, will be held June 4 at Scott City Park. A large array of bands is scheduled to play including The Melroys, Bruce Zimmerman, Common Thread, 13th Floor, Chimes of Freedom and Friends and The Leiner Brothers. The concert will be held from 3 to 9 p.m. Tickets are $10 and all proceeds will go to set up a scholarship fund in Leiner's name.
