Fundraiser to be held for alopecia areata

Jeep Cale Trail, a fundraiser for alopecia areata in honor of 6-year-old Cale Schremp, will begin with registration at 10 a.m. Saturday at The Barrens Winery, 2815 N. Highway 51 in Perryville, Missouri. All Jeeps, street-legal 4x4s and dune buggies will be allowed to ride in the caravan, which will leave from the winery at 11 a.m. A stop will be made for lunch at noon at Mary Jane's Burgers and Brews in Perryville, and the group will ride through scenic northern Perry and Ste. Genevieve counties with several stops from 1 to 4:30 p.m. The ride will end at 5 p.m. back at The Barrens Winery. The night will continue with live music from Dear Darla from 6 to 10 p.m. at the winery. All vehicles must be registered with a $50 donation to the National Alopecia Areata Foundation, which will receive all proceeds from the event. There is no cost to enjoy the live music, and food will be available for purchase from the Perryville Elks Lodge.

Robert Harris book signing scheduled

Robert Harris will autograph free copies of his book "A Garden for the Neighborhood" from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the Shawnee Park Center, 835 S. West End Blvd. in Cape Girardeau. Refreshments will be provided.

Chaffee VFW to host Hee Haw Show

Classy Chassy Country and Friends will present a Hee Haw Show at 6:30 p.m. Saturday at the Chaffee VFW Post 3127, 217 S. Frisco St. in Chaffee, Missouri. The show will consist of music, jokes and crazy antics from local talent. Those scheduled to appear include Classy Chassy Country Becki and Leroy, Kenny Chapman, "Elvis," Don Hester, Lee Davison, Debbie Sadler, Laura Friedhof and Sue "Minnie Pearl" Campbell. Tickets cost $7, but admission is free for children ages 8 and younger. Proceeds will be donated to Shriners Hospital for Children in St. Louis. Concessions will be provided by Route 25 Cafe of Delta. Doors will open at 5:30 p.m.

Western Swing Showcase set

The 12th annual Western Swing Music Showcase will be Thursday through May 21 at VFW Post 3838, 1049 N. Kingshighway in Cape Girardeau. The showcase will be from 2 to 10:30 p.m. Thursday and 11 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. May 20 and 21. The cost is $5 for members of the Western Swing Music Society of the Southwest or the VFW and $10 for nonmembers. Door prizes, drawings and a big jam room will be available.
