Percussion concert geared for families

The Southeast Missouri State University Percussion Ensemble and Steel Drum Band will present the "Percussion Pops" Family Concert at 10:30 a.m. May 5 in the Bedell Performance Hall at the River Campus. The concert will include music and slideshows from popular movies such as "Star Wars," "Aladdin," "The Little Mermaid," "Pirates of the Caribbean," "Harry Potter," "Madagascar" and "The Lion King." The Jackson High School Percussion Ensemble will also perform. Complimentary face painting will be offered before the concert, and balloons will be distributed after the concert. Buckner Brewing Co. to host comedy show

"Deep Fried Comedy" will take place at Buckner Brewing Co. today. The dinner show will begin at 7:30 p.m. and doors will open at 6:45 p.m. The evening show begins at 9:45 p.m. Comedians will include Andrew Chandler, Louie Benson, Mike Garvin, Richard Cason, Landon Meyer and Micheal Bramlett. Music will be provided by Matt Irwin and Mad Attack. Tickets are $5.

Artists to speak at River Campus

Three still life artists, Temma Bell, Ruth Miller and Megan Williamson, with pieces in the exhibition "Zeuxis: Reflections" will give a talk at 6 p.m. May 4 in the John and Betty Glenn Convocation Center at the River Campus. The exhibit will be on display May 1 through June 30 at the Crisp Museum. The public is invited to attend an opening reception for the exhibit from 4 to 8 p.m. on May 4.

Heartland Adaptive Sports host concert

Heartland Adaptive Sports will host a benefit concert with performances by Russ Taff and The Songfellows, and the Jackson City Park Band shell at 7 p.m. May 4. Tickets are available at Lifeway Christian Store in Cape Girardeau, 334-3570, or Heartland Adaptive Sports, 579-9282. Tickets are $12 in advance, $15 at the gate. The group rate is $10 a person for 10 people or more.

Riverfront market to make debut May 5

The Cape Riverfront Market will make its debut from 8 a.m. to noon May 5. This open-air market will include vendors selling farm-fresh produce, organic products, meats, cheeses, baked goods, jams, honey and arts and crafts. All products are locally grown, produced or prepared. There will be weekly demonstrations and entertainment. The market will run from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday mornings from May 5 to Oct. 27 in the parking lot at 35 S. Spanish St., next to Celebrations Downtown and across from Bel-Air Bar & Grill.
