The Arts Council of Southeast Missouri recently received a grant of $10,000 from the National Endowment for the Arts. The grant will help the council to assist in funding the 2016 and 2017 Cape Girardeau outdoor sculpture exhibits on Broadway. After the success of the inaugural exhibit in 2014, another yearlong show opened earlier this month. Sponsors of the exhibits have included the city of Cape Girardeau, Cape Girardeau Convention and Visitors Bureau, Old Town Cape and the Arts Council of Southeast Missouri.
May 2 is the deadline for artists to submit their work for consideration in the "2015 Art for the Health of It" display at SoutheastHEALTH. The artwork selected will hang in the corridor between elevators A and C at the hospital from June 28 to Aug 26. Juror for the show is Wendy Kurka Rust. The exhibit is open to artists age 18 and older and living within a 175-mile radius of Cape Girardeau. The two-dimensional works must be original and may be in any medium, but may not have been previously exhibited at SoutheastHEALTH or created in a class or workshop. The entry fee is $25 for up to three pieces; $20 for members of the Arts Council of Southeast Missouri. An opening reception will be at 2 p.m. June 28 at the hospital meeting room by elevator C. To view the prospectus or submit entries, visit capearts.org/ArtForTheHealthOfIt.aspx.
After a brief talk about puppet creators, such as Jim Henson, participants in Art Reach will create simple puppets from 9 to 10 a.m. Saturday at the Cape Girardeau Public Library, 711 N.
