Leon Pendarvis, who has been with NBC's Saturday Night Live Band for nearly 30 years, will make a return visit to Southeast Missouri State University on April 21. Pendarvis, the musical director and conductor for the SNL Band, will conduct a workshop for musical theater students from 1 to 2:30 p.m. at the River Campus Seminary Building and will present a public lecture from 2:45 to 4 p.m. at the Shuck Music Recital Hall. Pendarvis performed and lectured in Cape Girardeau in 2009 at the invitation of Judith Farris, artist-in-residence in musical theater and voice for Southeast's Department of Theatre and Dance.
The musical comedy "Nunsense" will be presented this summer at the Southeast Missouri State University's River Campus with Judith Farris, artist in residence, playing the role of Sister Mary Regina (Mother Superior). The show will be staged June 19 to 22 and June 26 to 29 in the Rust Flexible Theatre. All shows are at 7:30 p.m., except for the Sunday matinees on June 22 and 29 at 2 p.m. The plot centers on a convent's efforts to raise money by staging a variety show to bury several of their sisters who were accidentally poisoned. Michelle Contrino, instructor of theater and dance, will take on the role of Sister Mary Hubert. COBDEN, Ill. -- Anthill Gallery & Vintage Curiosities, 102 N. Front St. in Cobden, will display a series of art quilts by Carbondale, Ill., artist Karen Linduska. "The Marshlands of Southern Illinois" series may be viewed through May 31, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesdays through Saturdays and from noon to 4 p.m. Sundays. A public reception to view the exhibit and meet the artist will be at the gallery from 4 to 7 p.m. April 26.
The River Campus Art Gallery, on the first floor of the historic Seminary Building in Room 106, will host four exhibitions of artwork by students in Southeast Missouri State University's Department of Art at the 2014 Graduating Seniors Bachelor of Fine Arts Exhibitions from April 21 through May 16. The four exhibitions will run April 21 to 25, with a closing reception April 25; from April 28 to May 2, closing reception May 2; from May 5 to 9, closing reception May 9; and from May 12 to 16, closing reception May 16. Each of the closing receptions will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Gallery hours are from 1 to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 1 to 7 p.m. on First Fridays.
