Catapult to host designer workshop

Catapult Creative House will host its first "Designer for a Day Program" between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. Saturday at Catapult, 612 Broadway in Cape Girardeau. The program will be hosted by the Southeast Missouri State University Interior Design Program and will feature 60-minute consultations between students and clients, followed by a 60-minute design recommendation April 30. The students will assess the clients' needs and develop a plan for their space. Clients must apply to secure a scheduled appointment and can do so by contacting Leah Powers at lepowers@semo.edu or (573) 290-5372.

Hamblin Lecture scheduled

Southeast Missouri State University will present the Robert W. Hamblin Lecture, "After Humanity: Science Fiction After Extinction," at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday in the University Center Ballroom A, 1 University Plaza in Cape Girardeau. The lecture will be given by Gerry Canavan, assistant professor of English at Marquette University in Milwaukee. The event is free and open to the public.

Willie Nelson and Family to perform

Willie Nelson and special guests Jamey Johnson and Ryan Bingham will perform at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Show Me Center, 1333 N. Sprigg St. in Cape Girardeau. Doors will open at 6 p.m., and tickets cost $49.75, $59.75 and $69.75 based on seating. Tickets may be purchased at the Show Me Center box office or at www.showmecenter.biz.

'Alice in Wonderland' to be performed

Perryville High School's Silver Daggers will perform "Alice in Wonderland" at 7 p.m. Thursday to April 9 in the Old Senior High Performing Arts Auditorium, 1696 Perryville Road in Perryville, Missouri. Tickets will cost $5 at the door for anyone 1 year old or older. The show will be directed by Jennifer Birk-Cook and is based on the original story written by Lewis Carroll.

Annual Wine Festival to be held

The 15th annual Community Benefit Wine Festival will be from 6 to 9 p.m. April 8 at the Bavarian Halle, 225 Weiss Roadside Park in Jackson. Tickets for the event are $40 in advance or $45 at the door and will include a wine glass, wine samples from 15 local wineries, food from area restaurants and music by Platinum Strings. Tickets may be purchased at (573) 332-2795, by email at mburton@cccntr.com or at the Community Counseling Center Foundation, 402 S. Silver Springs Road in Cape Girardeau. The event will be hosted by the Community Counseling Center Foundation, and proceeds will benefit the Community Counseling Center.

Movie and costume contest planned

To celebrate the National Library Week theme "Libraries Transform" and Cape Comic Con, the Cape Girardeau Public Library will host a comic-con style costume contest and movie showing at 1 p.m. April 9 at the library, 711 N. Clark Ave. in Cape Girardeau. The event is free and open to the public, and participants will have the opportunity to win various prizes.
