The Jackson Heritage Association 2011 Art Contest will be from 1 to 3 p.m. April 10 at Jackson High School. Along with the Heritage Association, the contest is being hosted by the Bank of Missouri. Art by Jackson High students will feature Hubble Creek and Jackson City Park. A presentation of awards will be at 1 p.m. in the school's commons area.
CHARLESTON, Mo. -- The Charleston Arts Council is sponsoring the first Dogwood-Azalea Festival Juried Art Show. It will be April 14 through 17, and will open with a reception from 6 to 8 p.m. April 14. The awards will be presented at 4 p.m. April 17. The exhibit is open to any artist working in two- or three-dimensional media, and each artist may enter up to three pieces. Artwork must be delivered from noon to 5 p.m. April 13 or 9 a.m. to noon April 14 at the former kindergarten building, 711 E. Commercial St. in Charleston. SoutheastHealth Foundation will sponsor an Easter egg hunt for adults from 6 to 11 p.m. April 16 at the Bavarian Halle in Jackson. Participants should bring their own baskets and flashlights to aid in the hunt for more than 2,000 prize-filled eggs. The event will be held rain or shine. There will be a basket contest with a prize for the most creative, original basket. Dinner will be catered by Cook's BBQ & Catering, and music will be provided by Charlie's Music Review Sound System. Cape West 14 Cine will present "Hop" at 10 a.m. April 16 as part of the theater's Sensory Saturdays. For families touched by autism and other disabilities, Sensory Saturdays offer moderately dimmed lighting, no previews before the movie presentation, lowered volume and comfortable temperatures. Guests will be allowed to bring in food for children who are on special diets. They are also welcome to move around the auditorium, sing, dance and be themselves. SIKESTON, Mo. -- The Sikeston Area Chamber of Commerce will sponsor the 17th annual Redneck Barbecue on April 18 and 19 at the Sikeston Jaycee Bootheel Rodeo Grounds. This Kansas City Barbeque Society-sanctioned event will have competition in four categories: beef brisket, pork shoulder or Boston butt, pork ribs and chicken.
