Percussion ensemble presents spring concert

The Southeast Missouri State University Percussion Ensemble, under the direction of Shane Mizicko, will present its annual spring concert at 7:30 p.m. Thursday in the Bedell Performance Hall at Southeast's River Campus. From American composers Nathan Daughtrey, David Macbride and Michael Burritt to the work of Australian composer Nigel Westlake, the ensemble will perform compositions for xylophones, marimbas, multiple drums, cymbals and 50-plus other percussion instruments. The ensemble also will play an arrangement of Kansas City, Mo., native and ragtime composer/performer Charles Johnson's "Dill Pickles" for xylophone and marimba band. 'The Good, The Bad, The Opera'

The Southeast Missouri Music Academy will present "The Good, The Bad, The Opera" at 3 p.m. Sunday in the Shuck Music Recital Hall at Southeast Missouri State University's River Campus. Lori Shaffer, soprano; Christopher Goeke, tenor; Leslie Jones, mezzo-soprano; and Timothy Schmidt, baritone, will perform in this lighthearted operatic review with romance, intrigue and scandal. Civil War exhibit travels to Perryville

PERRYVILLE, Mo. -- "Divided Loyalties: Civil War Documents from the Missouri State Archives" is on display at the Perryville Higher Education Center and is sponsored by the Perry County Military History Museum. The exhibit, an extensive display of Missouri's role in the Civil War, will be open for viewing three days a week for three months. The times are from 1 to 3 p.m. Tuesdays; 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesdays; and 1 to 3 p.m. Thursdays. "Divided Loyalties" has toured Missouri, and at Perryville it includes a display of Perry County's role in the war.

Storytelling dates announced

The Cape Girardeau Convention and Visitors Bureau and Southeast Missouri State University will combine efforts to produce three, one-day storytelling events. "An Evening of Storytelling" events are scheduled for May 17 and Sept. 6, and Jan. 17 and May 16, 2014, on stage at the Bedell Performance Hall at Southeast Missouri State University's River Campus.
