University concert band holds first performance
The Southeast Missouri State University Concert Band will hold its first spring semester concert at 8 p.m. March 11 at the University Center Ballroom. The concert will feature performances of "Novo Lenio" by Samuel Hazo, "Stars" by Jay Dawson, "On a Hymnsong of Philip Bliss" by David Holsinger and selected pieces by Clifton Williams and Bruce Yurko. Arts Council looking for poster contestants
The Arts Council of Southeast Missouri is holding a poster competition for the Fourth Annual ArtsCape Spring Arts Festival. The winning design will be printed on posters, T-shirts and other items that will be sold at the festival and that will be available at the arts council gift shop throughout the year. The competition is open to anyone over age 18. The designs must celebrate the arts and Cape Girardeau or Southeast Missouri. Teachers needed for summer arts classes
Qualified teachers are needed for the Arts Council of Southeast Missouri's annual summer arts classes. The classes are for students of all ages and are intended to offer students materials and experiences that are not available in the school system. The arts council is always interested in core classes such as drawing, ceramics, murals and sculpture, but would also be interested in other creative classes such as printmaking and graphics. Proposals for teaching positions must be received at the arts council's office at P.O. Box 901, 32 N. Main St., Cape Girardeau, Mo., 63701, no later than March 19. Local art instructor shows work of her students
An art show featuring the work of Cleda Curtis Neal's art students will open tonight at 6 p.m. at the Garden Gallery located above Grace Cafe at 835 Broadway. Some, but not all, of the pieces will be for sale. The exhibit will remain until March 27.
Local band releases record at The Camp
A CD release party for the eponymous named album from Cape Girardeau's Mass Diffusion will be held Saturday at The Camp at 701 N. Main St. The metal band consists of vocalist/guitarist Gary Robert, drummer Gabe Robert and bass player Chris Mattingly. Doors open at 8 p.m. and stage at 10:45 p.m. Also appearing will be the bands Blackened Soul and Mood Minder.
