Mingo Refuge to hold photography contest

PUXICO, Mo. -- Mingo National Wildlife Refuge has announced its first annual photo contest. Photographers may submit photos of refuge scenes or of plants and wildlife native to the refuge. The entry deadline is July 15. For more information, call the refuge Visitor Center at (573) 222-3589.

Tourney-delayed concert set for this week

The Southeast Missouri State University Wind Symphony and Concert Band concert, postponed due to the women's NCAA basketball tournament, has been rescheduled for 8 p.m. Wednesday in Academic Auditorium. For more information, call 651-2265.

River City Players looking for improv comedians

The River City Players community theater group is looking for 12 actors and actresses to make up a group called Those Guys, a fast-paced improv comedy team (think "Whose Line is it Anyway?"). Auditions for the team take place at 6:30 p.m. March 31 at Port Cape Girardeau. Those Guys will perform several shows a year. Kiwanis to hold old-time rock 'n' roll dance April 1

The annual Kiwanis Club '50s and '60s Rock and Roll Dance will be held from 8 p.m. to midnight April 1 at the Arena Building. The dance will feature rock legend Bruce "Hey Baby" Channel, the band Decade, Kim Keele-Jasinski, Fred Horrell and The Flames and more. Prizes will be awarded for best dressed and dancing. Jackson High plans 'Night of Percussion'

On April 3 Jackson High School will hold "A Night of Percussion," a concert featuring percussion ensembles from Jackson and Southeast Missouri State University. The show starts at 7 p.m. in the Jackson High School Auditorium and features a variety of music from classical to Caribbean to pop. For more information, call 243-9513.

Jackson band gala to feature 'Idol' semifinalist

Jackson High School will present a big band gala at 8 p.m. on March 31 in the old gymnasium at the high school featuring the vocal stylings of local Chrissie Icaza, an "American Idol" semifinalist in 2005. Icaza will sing with Pat Schwent and the Saxy Jazz Transitions. The concert will also feature the high school jazz band playing songs from the big band era. For more information, call 243-9517.

Youth art on display at Westfield West Park mall

In observance of Youth Art Month Jackson students from kindergarten through 12th grade will display their works at West Park Mall through Sunday. For more information, call South Elementary in Jackson at 243-9575.

'Paul Klee' paintings open March 31 at St. Louis

ST. LOUIS -- An installation of eight works by Swiss painter and printmaker Paul Klee is set to open March 31 at the St. Louis Art Museum. This installation will feature Klee's work from 1918 to 1937. For more information, call (314) 721-0072.
