The Afters, a Christian pop-rock band from Texas, will perform at 7 p.m. April 3 at The Venue in Cape Girardeau. The Cape Girardeau stop is part of the four-man group's Life is Beautiful tour. Tickets are $12 in advance and $15 at the door. The Museum will open the show, and solo artist Kyle Sherman will make a guest appearance. Students' artwork at River Campus gallery
The Southeast Missouri State University River Campus Art Gallery will follow the "Salon des Refuses" tradition in its newest exhibit, featuring a variety of Southeast students' artwork. The exhibit will be on display from March 31 to April 11, and a reception is scheduled for from 5 to 7 p.m. April 4. "Salon des Refuses" will spotlight pieces from fibers, sculpture, drawing, painting, printmaking, ceramics, graphic design, illustration, digital art and photo and video projects. The River Campus Art Gallery is on the first floor of the Seminary Building in Room 106. River Campus Art Gallery hours are from 1 to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 1 to 7 p.m. on First Fridays. All gallery exhibitions, events and talks are free to the public. Flute concert features Mark Sparks
Flutist Mark Sparks will lead the sixth and final Sundays at Three installment of the season March 30 at Southeast Missouri State University's River Campus. The concert is 3 p.m. in the Shuck Music Recital Hall. Sparks will perform on flute with Peter Henderson on piano. The duo will perform classical pieces "Romance," "Reverie and Petite Valse," "Berceuse," "Piece romantique" and "D'un matin de printemps." After intermission, they will continue with selections from "Joueurs de flute" and "Romanze." The performance will conclude with selections from Sonata No. 1 in F minor. The selections will include "Allegro appassionato, "Andante un poco adagio" and "Allegretto grazioso and Vivace. Sparks is solo flutist in the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra. Described by the Denver Post as "mesmerizing," he is an orchestral artist, soloist, chamber musician and teacher. He has made guest appearances with top ensembles including the New York Philharmonic and Chicago's and Pittsburgh's symphony orchestras, and was a member of the Baltimore Symphony.
