Easter egg decorating workshop set

Barb Duncan will lead the annual Psyanky Workshop on April 10 and 11, when participants will learn the traditional Ukranian method of decorating Easter eggs and leave with their decorated egg. Duncan learned the technique in 1993 while visiting Vinitiza, Ukraine. Two children's sessions will be from 8 to 11 a.m. April 10 for those in grades three through five and from noon to 2 p.m. that day for those in sixth grade and older. The adult session will be from 10 a.m. to noon April 11. All sessions will be in the Crisp Museum at the River Campus of Southeast Missouri State University. The cost of the workshop is $15. Rosetta Whitten of Cateye Glasses Studio and Gallery will demonstrate ways to create projects that look like items purchased at retail at a fraction of the retail price. Cost of the workshop is $35. Called "No-Fail Knock-Offs," the event will take place from 6 to 9 p.m. March 26 at the studio, 2117B Broadway in Cape Girardeau. More information is available by calling 573-380-8464.

Jackson sponsors design contest

In observance of Jackson's bicentennial, the city and the Jackson Heritage Association have established a design contest with the goal of creating a flag for the city. The contest is open to all ages. The design must fit within the landscape dimensions of an 8.5-by-11-inch page. Entries must include the contestant's name, address, phone number and email address and be received by May 15. The winning submission will unveiled at the annual Jackson July Fourth picnic. Submitted designs will be considered for use as the city's official flag. Submissions should be sent to Jackson Heritage Association, P.O. Box 114, Jackson MO 63755.
