Former Jackson resident appears on new DVD

Former Jackson resident Eric Fledderman, now of California, was an extra in the Gulf War movie "Jarhead," released earlier this week on DVD. Fledderman, a former Marine and current member of the Air Force Reserve, appears three times in the film. Look for him sitting behind Jamie Foxx when the Marines land in Iraq.

Jackson high school's spring triple threat

The Jackson High School Thespians will present three plays in one performance -- "Antigone" by Sophocles, "Bang, Bang You're Dead" by William Mastrosimone and "The Bad Girl's Guide to Getting What You Want" by Cameron Tuttle -- on March 17 and 18 at 7 p.m. at the Jackson High School auditorium. Annual Beckwith Lecture takes place Wednesday

The annual Beckwith Memorial Archaeology Lecture will take place at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Southeast Missouri Regional Museum on the campus of Southeast Missouri State University. Dr. Timothy Pauketat, an anthropology professor with the University of Illinois, will present a lecture called "Ancient Heroes and Heroines in the Heartland: Where Archaeology Meets History." The lecture will focus on recent discoveries about the Mississippian civilization in the Mississippi Valley, particularly Cahokia. For more information, call the museum at 651-2260.

Poster unveiling party taking place March 18

The unveiling party for the 2006 winning ArtsCape poster design will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. March 18 in the Riverview Room at Buckner Brewing Co. Artists, crafters sought for ArtsCape festival

The Arts Council of Southeast Missouri is currently seeking artists and craftspeople to participate in the 2006 ArtsCape Community Arts Festival, to be held May 20 in Capaha Park. For more information, call the arts council at 334-9233.

African Music Ensemble performs March 17

The Macalester African Music Ensemble will perform at 7 p.m. March 17 at Cape First Church in Cape Girardeau.The ensemble, directed by Sowah Mensah, performs traditional African music on traditional African instruments. The concert is sponsored by the Shere Khan instrumental music ensemble from Central Middle School and Cape Girardeau's Children's Choir. For more information, call Pam Dumey at 334-6281.

Civil War re-enactment starts today in Sikeston

SIKESTON, Mo. -- A three-day Civil War re-enactment will be held in Sikeston starting today and going through Sunday. Today's events include living history throughout the day at the encampment at Scott Matthews' farm, on U.S. 60 two miles west of Interstate 55. On Saturday at 11 a.m. the Battle for Old Sikeston will take place downtown at the Sikeston Depot and Legion Park At 3 p.m. there will be a battle at the farm encampment, and in the evening a dance will be held at the farm. Events cap off Sunday with morning church services and a 1 p.m. battle at the farm encampment. For more information, call the Depot Museum at (573) 481-9967.

Dates set for Cape's Regional Air Festival

This year's Cape Girardeau Regional Air Festival, "Heroes and Legends," will be held July 7 and 8 at the Cape Girardeau Regional Airport. Two twilight shows on Friday and Saturday and a late afternoon Saturday show are part of the festivities. For more information, call 334-6230.

Gun and Knife Show starts March 17
