Southeast Missouri State University choral alumni are hosting the first Choral Reunion Concert and Reception on March 16 at Southeast's River Campus. The concert is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. in the Bedell Performance Hall, and a reception will follow. All singers who ever participated in a choir at Southeast are welcome to participate. Retired Southeast choral directors Dr. Doyle Dumas and Dr. John Egbert and current choral director Dr. Peter Durrow will rehearse with the choir and conduct the concert. JEFFERSON CITY, Mo.-- The Southeast Missouri Arts Council presented pieces of children's artwork from the 13th Annual Children's Arts Festival to members of the Missouri State Legislature on Wednesday in Jefferson City during Citizen's Day at the Legislature. These visual art pieces, by children from each of the 16 legislative districts represented by the Arts Council of Southeast Missouri, will be on display in the legislators' offices in the Capitol for the next year. Nine additional pieces also were selected for presentation to city council members and will hang in council chambers for the next year. This year's show was juried and will be exhibited during February at the Arts Council, 32 N. Main St., in Cape Girardeau.

The Cape Girardeau Roller Girls will open their new season Feb. 16 at the A.C. Brase Arena Building. The doors will open at 6 p.m. and the bout will begin at 7 p.m. Tickets are $7 in advance and can be purchased at PMac Music, Pitter's or at www.brownpapertickets.com/event/317923. Tickets at the door will be $9. Children under 5 get in free. Food and drinks will be provided by Pitter's. A portion of the proceeds from the event will benefit Southeast Hospice.
Auditions for the 8th Annual Kenny Rogers Children's Center Telethon Idol will be held Feb. 16 in the JCPenney wing of West Park Mall. Registration will be at 11 a.m. and auditions will begin at noon. A $10 registration fee is required. Please bring a photo to the audition. All ages are welcome to audition a cappella for the singing competition. If selected, contestants then will perform live at the telethon March 16. "Civil War Times" is being hosted by the Crisp Museum from 1 to 4 p.m. Feb. 16 at Southeast Missouri State University's River Campus. "Civil War Times" introduces the life and times of soldiers and their families. Participants will witness setting up camp, daily chores, work and leisure of historic times and enjoy hands-on activities, food tasting, period clothing, music and interesting demonstrations. Special guests at the event include the Turner Brigade, the Sixth Missouri Company D Confederate Infantry Re-enactors of Dexter, Mo., and History Alive Living History Interpretive Group.
