'Art for the Health of It' deadline approaches

The deadline for submissions to the Arts Council of Southeast Missouri and Southeast Missouri Hospital's "Art for the Health of It" juried competition and exhibit is Feb. 13. The exhibit will be on display from Feb. 26 to April 27 in the surgical waiting room of Southeast Missouri Hospital. The contest is open to artists 18 years and older living within a 175-mile radius of Cape Girardeau and must be original two-dimensional works not previously exhibited at the hospital or created in the workshop. Cash prizes will be awarded for Best of Show and four Juror's Awards. For more information, call 334-9233.

'Rajun' Cajun' to discuss politics at SIU campus

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- Democratic political strategist James Carville with visit the Southern Illinois University campus in Carbondale at 6:30 p.m. Thursday to discuss the political debates of the nation. Edgerton, Thompson to perform recital Feb. 12

Southeast Missouri State University music faculty members Paul Thompson and Sara Edgerton will perform Dance Suites and Duos for Cello and Piano at 3 p.m. Feb. 12 in Old St. Vincent's Church. The program will include solo works for the cello in addition to duos with piano and cello including Bach's Suite in D minor for Solo Cello, Max Reger's Suite for Solo Cello in D minor and other works. 'The Vagina Monologues' hits Southeast campus

For the first time in its four years of production in Cape Girardeau, Eve Ensler's "The Vagina Monologues" will be performed on the campus of Southeast Missouri State University as part of the V-Day College Campaign. The performance is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Feb. 16 in Academic Hall Auditorium. The performance of the play is meant to raise awareness of violence and abuse against women, with all proceeds going to the Southeast Missouri Network Against Sexual Violence. An item drive will also be conducted to benefit the Cape Girardeau Safe House for Women the week of Feb. 15 to 21. 'Louis Comfort Tiffany' opens today at museum

ST. LOUIS -- The works of Louis Comfort Tiffany will be on display through Oct. 29 at the St. Louis Art Museum. The 30-piece installation features glass, pottery, lighting and bronzes made by the son of Tiffany and Co. co-founder Charles Tiffany made from 1885 to 1925. Lincoln library and museum celebrate president's birthday

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. -- Starting Feb. 11 and continuing Feb. 12 and 15 the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Museum and Library in Springfield will hold a celebration of Lincoln's birthday with several events. African American heritage celebrated in Poplar Bluff
