Leather and Lace benefit scheduled

SEMO Chapter Harley Owners Group and Lawless Harley-Davidson present Leather and Lace 2017 at 7 p.m. Saturday at the Cape Girardeau Elks Lodge 639, 639 Elks Lane in Cape Girardeau. Shades of Soul will perform at 8 p.m.; a silent auction will end at 9:30 p.m. Tickets may be purchased in advance at Lawless Harley-Davidson: $15 per person or $25 for two; all tickets purchased at the door will be $15 each. Cape Civil War Roundtable to meet

The Cape Girardeau Civil War Roundtable meets the third Sunday of every month at Hanover Lutheran Church, 2949 Perryville Road in Cape Girardeau. The meeting is free and open to the public. This month's speaker will be Frank Nickell, who will speak about "Perspectives of the Civil War from the 21st Century" at 2 p.m. Sunday.

Writers Guild to meet Sunday

Sarah Geringer, an inspirational writer and blogger from Jackson, will share part two of her presentation on self-publishing. Anyone interested in writing and getting published is welcome to attend. The meeting will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at Steck House Art Gallery, 210 E. Washington St. in Jackson.

Faculty recital planned Sunday

"Voices of Women," a faculty recital of music by women composers, will feature Leslie Jones, voice, and Jennifer Judd, piano, at 3 p.m. Sunday in Shuck Recital Hall on Southeast Missouri State University's River Campus, 518 S. Fountain St. in Cape Girardeau. Tickets are $10.

Circus coming to Cape Girardeau

Garden Brothers Circus returns to Cape Girardeau's Show Me Center, 1333 N. Sprigg St., on Tuesday, with shows at 4:30 and 7:30 p.m. Performances will feature live elephants, "Motorcycle Madness," Chinese acrobats, the Human Slingshot, racing camels, crazy comedy with circus clowns, aerialists and cirque artists. Free children's tickets have been distributed at all elementary schools, pre-schools, day-care centers and churches. Free tickets also are available at sponsoring businesses in the area. Garden Basics class to be Tuesday

Participants can join Donna Aufdenberg from the University of Missouri Extension to learn the basics of starting a garden. Learn how to choose a garden site, amend soils and plant seeds and the basics of growing plants in Southeast Missouri. The free class will be from 6 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Shawnee Park Center, 835 S. West End Blvd. in Cape Girardeau.

'Big River' to open Wednesday

Mark Twain's classic about Huck Finn helping his friend Jim, a slave, escape to freedom at the mouth of the Ohio River will be performed next week. Their adventures along the way are hilarious, suspenseful and heartwarming, bringing to life favorite characters from the novel "Adventures of Huckleberry Finn." Tickets are $19.50 to $22.50 and are available at the River Campus box office. Show times are 7:30 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday, 8 p.m. Feb. 24, 7:30 p.m. Feb. 25 and 2 p.m. Feb. 26 in the Bedell Performance Hall at the River Campus, 518 S. Fountain St. in Cape Girardeau.

Rock & Worship to visit Cape

The Rock & Worship Roadshow will begin at 7 p.m. Feb. 24 at the Show Me Center, 1333 N. Sprigg St. in Cape Girardeau. The event will feature musical artists Steven Curtis Chapman, Francesca Battistelli, Rend Collective, Passion, Family Force 5, Jordan Feliz, Derek Minor and Urban Rescue. The guest speaker will be author and comedian Tony Wolf, and the show will be hosted by Carlos Whittaker. Tickets will cost $10 and may be purchased by calling (573) 651-5000 or visiting the Show Me Center box office.
